Ya know, one piece of gear I've always thought was cool, and it has stood out since my first viewing of Raiders way back when,.... Was Jocks AIR PIRATES shirt. Just the name spoke volumes of "what might have been", adventure-wise with Indy. As a kid, I always fantasized about what other adventures Jock and Indy went on, thinking that Jock was an integral part of the team. Then when TOD came out, there was no sign of ol' Jock. Well, I was thinking, since we have such good eyes in this hobby, maybe we can find the perfect shirt to get AIR PIRATES silk screened on. Can't be that hard, can it? I know Agent5 has been looking into it now and again, but never found a suitable shirt. It looks like a simple bowling style/work shirt from the era. What do you say, fellas?? Want to try and come up with something. We could make it an Indy Lounge project. Maybe even get Indy Lounge embroidered on the front, in place of Jocks name, or maybe under it. Would be tres' cool. Here are a few screen grabs to start out. 'Blues

Well, certainly sounds cool to me!!! Seeing as how one of my goals for the year is to begin flying lessons in the hopes to one day obtain a pilot's license, that would be a very cool and fitting addition to my collection / wardrobe. So I'm likin' the idea, 'Blues!!! But you can forget about the hat... ;D Ol' Jock and I don't share the same tastes in baseball teams... -GCR

Sounds like a fun idea to me! This style of shirt doesn't look that hard to find, though if Agent 5 spent some time searching for it, it may be tougher than I'm guessing. I found a place online a couple of years ago that customizes bowling style shirts for bowling teams, car clubs, bands, etc.... I'll look up the link to see if they have something close as well. I know the shirts could be found elsewhere and have the letters and patch put on by someone or a third party seamstress place. But, it might be a lucky break if one place can do it too. Cool idea... ;D Man, I REALLY must be "asleep at the wheel" while watching Raiders. I've seen the thing over a thousand times and never once paid any attention to Jock's shirt or noticed that it said "Air Pirates" on the back. That's a great idea though, IB. I'm not to fond of the lettering style on the shirt though. I'd do "Air Pirates" in the Raiders style letter going across the back. That would be cool. Then maybe below it put "The Indy Lounge". On the upper left front of the shirt maybe you could have the person's "handle" from the board embroidered on it. Just some suggestions....

Sounds like a fun idea to me! : Ken Your post regarding Jocks screen accurate fishing pole, rekindled my interest, actually. ;D I can't believe I didn't think of it before to post here because it was always in the back of my mind. Thanks Ken 'Blues

BUT, I'd like to keep it true to the screen used shirt, myself. By all means, you can make a shirt up they way you like it though, no real rules here. 'Blues

'Blues There's an old saying where I come from: I root for two teams, the Red Sox and whoever beats the Yankees... ;D But anyway, this does sound like a cool idea! There are lots of different pieces of clothing from the Indy movies that I'd love to have, part for the collector aspect and part just because I thought they were cool looking. Indy's ToD tuxedo was one I always liked, along with the Raiders suits and ties...but I never even thought of Jock's shirt... Sounds like a fun idea to me! Well, you brought up the shirt and that made me think of the "idea" that was floating around here last year about doing something here similar to the "coin" over at COW. We ended up discussing the possibility of doing a Lounge shirt of some kind. Nothing really ever came of it though. So I wasn't really thinking about trying to make it screen accurate. Just taking this idea and carrying over to something else.

Thre more often they are mentioned, the more the spies like to report that we are somehow copying them, which is ridiculous to me. This place has a shared interest with them and nothing else, IMO. BTW, John and I put two of the spies out of commission. We'll keep watching for other candidates in that arena. Ken

If you decide to go with the Aramark shirt make sure you wear a t-shirt under it. My one "close-enough" Indy shirt is from there and it's made of the same material. It's not the softest shirt in the world and it can be quite scratchy on the skin even after it's been washed.

Man, you guys are good. I like the crap Tone found, it looks pretty damn close. It's so hard to tell from pics. If the shirt is a bit rough, then a shirt underneath would be screen accurate as well, since Jock seems to be wearing a yellow t-shirt under his. I will keep searching as well 'Blues

Here are a couple more screen caps that confirm there is only one front pocket. Not that it really matters, however.... We can get shirts with two pockets, it's not that big of a deal. Ken

Are you sure of only one pocket, Ken? I can kind of make out a second one,.....and I think it's gray/grey ;D Seriously, it looks like there may be a second one there. Look at my first pic, you can kind of make out the top line. Not 100% sure, and like you said, that doesn't really matter as much to me. Now Agent5, however,... he will settle for nothing less than ROTLA perfection. He is the true Indy Jedi. We are but padawans. 'Blues

Let me backpeddle a bit then..... I thought that was only one pocket on his left, but now I'm not sure. Oh well... it wouldn't be the first time I missed something. Ken

I don't see two pockets on the shirt and to be honest I'm not sure if it even has any on the front. What your seeing that looks like the top pocket flap could actually be a blank strip. I've seen them on the front of mechanics shirts. It would be where they'd put a name or company logo. It's not hard to imagine that Jock owned his own private air service and worked on the planes himself.
Just a thought.

I just looked at the screen caps at 300% and 400% zoom, and I do believe you are correct there Pitfall. It looks like the shirt just had a wrinkle in it horizontally, that fell right where the pocket opening would be. There is no pocket opening on either side, just the impression of one, given by the wrinkle or fold. I think Jock's shirt is either silk, rayon, or thin cotton. It looks very lightweight and flappy up close. Here is a supersized version of one of my screencaps to reference: You can also see more clearly, the tab or piece of fabric sewn right above the line with his name on it. The shoulder seam is so pronounced in these shots, that it makes me think there is a really flat epaulet on them. But, the other photos from the back side don't show any. Good call Pitfall.... Ken

I tried finding a shirt off the net that would be a good example of what I was trying to explain but I couldn't find anything. I've just seen shirts like that in other films set in like the 50's where the kids working on their cars have something similar to these shirts on. I think you guys got the idea though. RB, I was thinking the same thing about the shirt having flat epaulets. As far as the pocket goes. I kept looking at these shots and I didn't see a stitching outline where the rest of the pocket should be so that's what made me think it was something else. You guys might want to try searching for aviator shirts online. You might find something in a short sleeve closer to this shirt.
