Wouldn't that be the bag strap?

That's what I thought at first, but it looks like Indy forgot to bring his Mk VII with him to Nepal. Every shot we see him in that burning bar, he's without his bag. Let's see if you can prove me wrong THIS time! Steven

I've just noticed this about the Indiana Jones jacket in general after looking at the new Raiders jacket from U.S. Wings. I'm not sure if this is the proper thread to bring it up in, but the conversation here at least in part seems to be about mulling over jackets and other gear for max to pick out, so.... In the new US Wings-Neil Cooper 30th Anniversary Original Pattern Raiders-style Jacket, if you look at this picture: You can see that the "action" back is actually a big pleat that runs from around the shoulders down to the very bottom of the jacket. It's not a vent at all, just a large pleat (and would actually be my preference, anyway). Now, let's look at a picture that IndyLounge member ron521 took in this thread of his Signature Series™ Indy-style VIP Adventurer Jacket. It starts out as a pleat (And at that seems to have a lower starting point than the prior picture I posted. Wonder why U.S. Wings done that.), but at around the side strap, it turns into a vent, like a back panel flap. Gibson & Barnes' own Expedition at least appears to have a back panel that's vented rather than a full pleat. Does anyone get what I'm noticing here?

Haha, I'm not trying to prove you wrong, PJ, I'm just trying to get to the facts. The shining thingy puzzles me too. I'd say it was some of the leather inside, which eg. my own (non-indy) jacket has, which before the actual lining starts. However, there doesn't seem to be much of that in Indy jackets.
Babuchanan, I see what you did there. I hadn't noticed that. Good catch. Now I have three reasons for not choosing Wings.

A full pleat definitely doesn't appear to be Raiders accurate based on the filmjackets.com thread. Those pictures clearly demonstrate a pleated back down the straps where the back panel is then vented. A full pleated back might be a personal preference of mine, but... yeah. I'm not even sure if the U.S. Wings picture has an un-vented action back and that is instead just some picture trickery, but the way the picture was took certainly makes it appear un-vented. Interestingly, Indygear.com demonstrates that a jacket was used for the truck dragging scene that was un-pleated and just had the vented back. In any case, I hope what I think I'm seeing is correct and doesn't turn out to somehow be misinformation. I'd hate for max to be mislead and have to un-thank me. ;D And Pennsylvania Jones, while some of the jackets might have indeed been lined with nylon (I wouldn't assume to know), your own rating system advances prop accuracy over screen accuracy.

Don't worry babuchanan, I think you're in the clear. ;D
Regarding the lining, Peter himself has stated that the jackets he provided for the movie were lined with cotton. As the movie jacket links states, satin was introduced afterwards, because stuff would get hung up un the cotton. Wested now offer a cotton body / sating arm lining. While not prop accurate, it's definitely the best middle ground, I think.

On all the jackets barring the ToD, the pleat runs down to about where the strap is and then becomes an open vent.
On the ToD the vent is much smaller, at most a couple of inches.

The vent on ron521's U.S. Wings VIP Cowhide jacket looks like it would be Temple of Doom length, then. The new Raiders jacket just doesn't look like it has any vents at all, just a nice pleated back panel that runs full length down to the bottom.

And Pennsylvania Jones, while some of the jackets might have indeed been lined with nylon (I wouldn't assume to know), your own rating system advances prop accuracy over screen accuracy. I was hoping someone would bring that up. Firstly, as far as I know, only the ToD and LC jackets had nylon lining (One of the LCs had black nylon). Secondly, it's a matter of comparison and terminology. Screen-Accuracy implies that you can put your gear item (say, the jacket) up to your TV Screen and you can't tell the difference. Keep in mind that many people have smaller resolution TVs and DVD Players. Prop-Accuracy implies that you can put your gear item up to the screen-used prop and you can't tell the difference. Every detail of the pattern, every ding, every STITCH, matches up perfectly. The major difference is this. With Screen-Accuracy, the material doesn't really matter, since it makes no noticeable difference, as long as the color and the pattern matches up to what you see throughout most of the film. With Prop-Accuracy, however, you'd need much more than your TV set. You'd have to dig deeper and find out what materials were used for the making of the prop, which pattern, down to the millimeter, matches the original precisely. THAT'S why SA is below PA on my scale. Haha, I'm not trying to prove you wrong, PJ, I'm just trying to get to the facts. Sure, you aren't, but I've just had some bad luck noticing the details lately. First, the whole "Officer's Pinks in Cairo" fiasco, then another SoC-related thread regarding the whip, both proven wrong. For those who see a sheen there, it's just the shading caused by the lighting of the bar. See? Steven

So, you're saying that's not really nylon like you originally thought?

I'm saying it's not really SHINY like I originally thought. I meant that nylon lining COULD'VE been accurate. At least I beat the others to the correction this time. Steven

Aha, NOW I see what you meant. It's actually not shiny, it's just a crease in the shirt, is that it?
I've heard the officer's pinks in cairo come up before, but I don't really know the story...

It could be a crease in the shirt, it could be the lining of the jacket, it could be a handkerchief that someone dropped into Harrison's jacket before the filming began, it could be anything at all. We could either spend the rest of the thread debating about what the mystery material in the shot is, or we could keep discussing Max's potential Indy Gear. So, have the pants arrived yet, Max? EDIT: Here's the whole "Officer's Pinks in Cairo" story: I saw a shot from the SoC scene where it looked like Indy was wearing bellbottoms. That's what made me think that a pair of Sage-Colored Officer's Pinks were worn in the shot. My reply was that all of the pants were the same. They replied that the reason they looked like bellbottoms was probably because Harrison was sick from the Tunisian Food he was eating during the shooting, and his thighs must've ballooned as a result of that. The problem was that the pants seem to be loose everywhere else, including the other scenes filmed in Tunisia. I subsequently figured out why I saw what I saw, thanks to owning a pair of loose, floppy pajamas myself. Whenever I make that stance from the shot in those pants, the backs of the thighs parachute back and the front of the thighs sprawl out on my thighs, making it look like I'm wearing bellbottoms. So that probably was the case during the filming of Raiders. Steven

True, true. No pants yet. I just put in my measurements last night, and the status has been updated to "Processing". But I did get my original Mk VII today from WPG! I actually have a question about that. I've seen both of Kim's original MkVIIs, and they both have a pretty large stamp on the inside of the lid where it says all kinds of things, I don't really remember what. But i distinctly remember seeing it. The one I have has a very small stamp which is just one word (which I can't make out) followed by "1942". Do all originals have the large stamp? Is there a way to tell whether this actually isn't an original?

I guess not all original MKIIV's will have a large stamp on the inside of the flap. Your's should still be an original even if it's a small stamp. Maybe KT or someone who has an original one can chime in on this.

I think you're right, Noah. I've looked at the list at the bottom of this page from indygear, but I can't see the stamps on all of them. However, by direct comparison mine is a perfect match for the first bag on the list. So assuming they kept using the same buttons etc. for all the bags those companies make, and didn't suddenly make changes, that's gotta be the one.

Gotta post some pics once you get your gear!
Sometime in the future I'd like to get one of Wade's TOD/LC/CS straps.

I will. I might take some pictures of the bag and shirt tomorow. Let's call it teasers. I heard some rumors somewhere that some people have returned their WE straps because the color rubbed of on their shirt when it got wet, and was jerked around. Anyone heard of / experienced this?

Teasers are good! Yeah I've heard stories of the bag straps color rubbing off on their shirts when wet. But I don't hear it happening a lot. It shouldn't be a major problem. Maybe Wade might know a remedy to that?

Hmm, I'll have to test that out before putting it to any real use. It would be a shame to mess up my new shirt.
