Teaser time! Here's a couple of pics I took of my most recent acquisitions. The first is with flash, the second is without. Two things on the images are going to be replaced / upgraded. Both have been ordered. Lastly, here is a picture of the stamp inside the bag. If any one can make it out I'd be glad to know. Hmm, it doesn't even look green in that picture... Anyway, can't wait for the rest of stuff now! Edit: Wuhu, got post no. 100! Now that I had the camera out, I thought I'd put together some of my everyday non-indy/adventurer clothes to see how Indy-like it would get. Here's what I got: Epaulettes and two front pockets on shirt (though white, not tan), brown webbed belt (though with blue stripe), brown gun-belt, brown pants (though way too brown), leather jacket (though black, not dark brown, not to mention all sorts of wrong details), brown boots (actually look okay, except the sole.).

Thanks! Yes, yes it is. Do you know anything about him? I just bought it "off some guy on ebay". I havn't been able to find anything on the guy. What is JRZ?

The guy's username is actually jrzjoe. I'm actually planning on buying a 12-ft, 4-plait whip from him, in addition to a Todd's Whip. I have a plan for each one: the Todd's for virtually everything except stunts. The jrzjoe whip will be used for things too stressful for a real whip to do, like whip drags or swinging. Steven

heh, I do know his username, I bought it from him on eBay. I was just wondering if he's "somebody". I always figured he was just some guy doing whips.
Why only 4-plait? The one i bought is 10-plait, and I'm not completely satisfied with the look, so I've ordered another one. But of course, you already have one with the right look. This time I ordered from Nick Lang, if that rings a bell. He came very recommended by Kim.

4-plait because that means thicker strands of leather, and therefore more durability, so I've heard. Sacrificing aesthetics for durability is always a good idea with stunt props. If I'm wrong, and that's not how jrzjoe works, tell me immediately. What do you mean "You already have one with the right look"? My current whip is just the belt from one of my sister's jackets! I don't own any of the real gear yet! Steven

Ah, that makes sense. I have no idea how he works, but his service is great! I thought you meant that you already had a whip from Todd's, totally misunderstood. ;D How's that belt cracking?

Post by Pennsylvania Jones on Aug 23, 2010 13:06:31 GMT -5
Yeah, I guess I should've been more careful with my wording. ;D I've cracked it so much that it started to come apart. The cracking end is currently being held together with tape. So I'm not going to actually "crack" it anymore. But I CAN still do a cool Indy stunt with it. I can have my brother (Troopcaptain) hold out a plastic baseball bat or lightsaber. Then I swing my "whip" toward it and wait until it wraps around the baseball bat, then jerk the whip toward myself. The whip grips the bat/saber, and it comes right out of his hand. It's really very satisfying to do. You ought to try it. Steven

That trick is the first thing I'll do when I get my new whip and take it for a test drive. Which will be the very first time I ever swing a whip. Any volunteers for holding the bat?

Be sure to post a video when you do! That trick was inspired by the Raiders "Burning Stoker" stunt, where Toht threatens to burn Marion's nose until Indy comes in the nick of time. As for the volunteers... Try your roommate (Brother, Sister, Dorm Roommate, Wife, etc.). Steven

Gear looks good! I actually won one of those JRZ Joe's whips from a contest on another forum.
Nick Lang, that's Pagey. So you ordered a whip from him? Great! I heard lots of good things about his whips. Do you know if he's making whips right now?

It's pagey?! Wow, small world. No, he told me he doesn't make whips anymore. But he was willing to part with one from his private stock that he copied directly off a David Morgan. I was under the impression that pagey (still, I guess) made and sold whips. I even considered buying one from him. Edit: The JRZ joe whip doesn't seem half bad. Have you tried it out?

Big news! I decided to stop second guessing myself, and to more or less blindly trust the opinion and analysis brought forth by agent5. This has resulted in an order for a Wested jacket! I still hadn't heard back from Gemma, so I called instead, and luckily she answered the phone. Now I just hope she checks the mail for the adjustments she asked me to put in by e-mail. On recommendation by agent5, I've put in the following order, and adjustments: Measurements ---------------- Jacket size: 44 Sleeve length: 25.5 inches (65 cm) Back length: 26 inches (67 cm) (I changed my mind after my first order, so I wrote back quickly and asked for an inch shorter) Details ------------- Leather: Lamb, authentic brown. (I contemplated dark, but chickened out) Pattern: 919 (Chris King / 80's / thinner) pattern Lining: Cotton, satin arms Zipper: 5 gauge, Aluminum (if not available then nickel (if not available then brass)) Leather facing: No leather facing along zipper track Storm flap: 1.5 inches width with rounded top corner Collar stand: Leather, not cotton Collar: 2.75 inches (7cm)on the tips, tapering down to 2.5 inches (6.4cm). The left collar should also extend to the midway point of the top of the storm flap, or .75 inches (1.9cm) from the edge of the flap. Pockets: (slightly smaller pockets than regular to match my smaller frame) 2 inches (5.1cm) from bottom. Width of pocket: 6.25 inches (16cm). Length of pocket (including pocket flap): 7.5 inches. (19.1cm). Scalloped pocket flap. Pocket flap length in middle of flap, 2.75" (7cm) Aluminum or nickel snap. Right pocket: 1.5 inches (3.8cm) from the zipper seam (edge of jacket). Left Pocket: 1 inch (2.5cm) from storm flap. Side strap: Length : 8.75 inches (22.3cm) Width : 1 inch (2.5cm) Side straps sewn with X pattern AND box pattern, double stitched. Side strap buckles: Black or gunmetal rectangular 2 piece rings. Side vent stitch: no stitch holding the side vents closed. Pleat depth: 1.25 inches (3.2cm). Yoke seam: The arm seam should be 1 inch (2.5cm) below the yoke seam. Back panel: The back panel should extend all the way out to the sleeve seam. Inside pocket: Only one, left, inside 'slit' pocket, minimal facing (less leather) Underarm gussets: 1 piece (small) underarm gussets Fingers crossed it turns out good.

Alright! Now you're going to get the jacket! Another thing. I noticed that you didn't include the gun in your Indy Gear Wishlist. Planning on going with an empty holster? Steven

Yes, I took the plunge...! Very nervous about having to darken it myself. I'll have to see how it looks live. Well, I'm going for a... uhm.. like... just after Belloq takes Indy's gun at the beginning. After that, but before he jumps into the lake and gets all wet. *cough* ... Right there, there's no gun, so, yea, you know. I never really put too much thought into the gun. It's one of those things, to me, that's a combination of not very important, and pretty expensive to get right. So I think, for starters, I'll get something at the toy store, or go "naked".

That was actually under consideration. But I dropped it because I wasn't getting anything else from there. And again, I live in Denmark, so if (when) it's picked up in customs, the pricetag will be $128... Which is a lot for a lump of rubber.

Oh, I see. I guess, for you, when it comes to guns, close-enough would be good enough. Of course, when I collect Indy Gear, I'm not going to skimp on the gun. It's always been one of my favorite gear items. Whenever I think of Indy, I think of Hat/Whip/Gun. If any one of those elements is missing, Indy seems under-equipped. Steven

Well, the gun has never been a priority for me. Actually it wasn't until I was reminded of it from reading threads in here that I even considered buying one.
But, one of the reasons I won't put down that amount for a rubber one right now is that when I do buy one, it has to be exactly right. It has to feel, and look, like the real deal. Eg. like the Todd's. (little Scrubs joke for ya). But I'm not in a hurry to get it, I can easily go without it, so I'll take my time to search the market properly.
I havn't bought gloves either, that's on my "later" list, too.

Buy them from Todd's with all of your other stuff. Todd's Gloves are very, very accurate.

But as it's all turned out, I'm actually getting nothing from Todd, as it turns out... Although I thought, to begin with, that I'd get quite a lot from there.
Are the Coyle's more accurate than the Well-Lamont?

Really? Nothing from Todd? May I ask that you put up a more up-to-date list of gear? One that includes what you have and what you currently want? Steven

I hope you enjoy your jacket! And I sure hope they get those specs right. They're famous for getting them wrong. There's lots of stories about that.
No actually I didn't recieve the whip yet. Good to hear that it's not that bad!
Todd's gloves are accurate, I'd say just as much as Wells-Lamont gloves. Todd's gloves are a good price. They're cheaper than most I see at hardware stores.

PJ, Yeah, that kinda snuck up on me too. I'll put together the list when I get back from work.
Thanks, Noah. Yeah, I hope they get it right too. I haven't heard about them getting specs wrong when you give them exact measurements. All I've heard is that the standard measurements might not be SA.
I might actually get the gloves from Todd, and hope they get through customs. Then I'd probably get a headpiece while I'm at it. And maybe a web belt. (I got one from Wade Egan because I realized the belt would be the only thing I'd get from Todd, which would be a waste of shipping.)

They seem to get custom specs wrong a lot, but sometimes they get it right on the dot. I've seen some really nice jackets from Wested Todd's gloves are good. I'd suggest getting gloves from him. And you can get them distressed. His web belts are good too. I have one in brown and one in khaki so I have a color for each film. And I'd really suggest the brass buckles
