I wanted to announce that I will be starting up THE PENMAN HAT COMPANY. I will be launching a web-site soon ( 2-3 weeks). I will be offering a 100% beaver felt with a few options. - I will have a few colors and styles to choose from - I will be using a high quality 1 1/2'' vegetable tanned sheepskin sweatband and a satin liner - It will be finished off with 1 1/2'' grosgrain hat ribbon ( black, brown and a very dark brown almost black for the Indy hats) - My hats off of my web-site will be priced at $ 275.00 + shipping - My hats for members here will be priced at $250.00 + shipping - I will offer a $50.00 discount for all Firefighters I will offer for the first 10 people a price of $200.00+shipping ( with no other discounts included). I will not be able to make anyone a hat for a couple of weeks because I'm waiting for my sweatbands to be made and stamped. I will post the list here and will take payment when you hat is ready to be made. This is for the first ten people. Please PM me if interested and thanks to everyone who showed interest and support. If I don't have your block size I will hold the price for you but skip in order to make the next person on the list. I hoping to have a couple more blocks in 2-3 weeks. The list is being continued at the member price of $250.00 and firefighter price $225.00

There is 11 spots now because 1 is a firefighter so he would have gotten the same price for being on the job and being a member.

ust wanted to keep everyone up to date. Some people will jump up in order based on block and color of felt that I have in stock. As you can see that G-mann jumped up because he wanted my sahara colored felt that I had ordered a couple of weeks ago. I will try to do this as long as possible but this takes time to do. It ( in a weird way) lucky that I'm waiting for sweatbands or most likely will not be able to keep a up to date like this.
Can the following people please either send me via: e-mail, PM, or post me your head size in inches?

So Something along the Lines of A Blues brothers Fedora Wouldn`t be out of the question someday? I will be working off the same block right now. Getting a full range of one block and flange is costing a good penny. If things go well then I can buy other block shapes.

I would think someone like Jimmy pierce or Petersbrothers would be a better bet. The raw body would be different.

Here is a shot of the liner and sweatband being used in my hats. I have been wearing this sample liner for a few days and I have to say it is very comfortable. I'm very happy with it. It's just a matter of getting the stamp on them.

It looks great... I have nothing else to say... I'm just impressed, because I know the (very) basics to make an hat, but when you see something like that, you really see the effort and the love put in it.

Just wanted to correct myself on a bit of information about the sweatbands.
The sweatbands will be made from vegetable tanned sheepskin.

Good to hear. I think that should wear better (feel softer) and hold it's size much better than cowhide. Ken

Even though I have a hat on order with you I don't think that I have congratulated you on your endeavors openly.
I know how badly you felt having to leave firefighting so I can't begin to tell you how happy I am for you to have found a new purpose in life so quickly and successfully.
Your hats look great and I can't wait to see what you come up with for me.
Cheers, John

Right on. He re-worked a Stetson for me back in '94 when he was still in Tucson. Nice guy. Hey, did you know I was Doc Holliday on the cover of 2 books? Here's one of them- www.amazon.com/Holliday-Tombstone-S-M-Ballard/dp/1932695699I spent 4 months growning out my moustache and actually went to Tombstone for the photoshoot.

I just ordered blocks to fill in the ones that I'm missing as to be able to make everyone on the list now. It will take a couple of weeks for them to be in my hands. I don't think that will slow things down any or much because like I posted I have to wait for the sweatbands.
I still have to order felt for some of you guys and gals.

Thanks for the update John. What's the official name for the brown color you'll be using on the Indy hats?

Just got of the phone with my sweatband supplier. He's trying to help me out while on vacation. I will get the proof of the stamp on wed. morning and then I will get some sweatbands hopefully soon after that. that will get the first couple of people on it's way.
The timing suck because everyone out on vacation but when I get all the supplies I'll be working every day non-stop to get everyone their hats.
Thanks again everyone for placing your pre-orders and being patient.
