Indiana Jones 5 On The Way, Claims Spielbergwww.contactmusic.com/news/indiana-jones-5-on-the-way-claims-spielberg_1252899A fifth Indiana Jones movie is likely to begin production in the near future, after director Steven Spielberg revealed his close friend and collaborator George Lucas is working on the script. During an interview with Empire Magazine, the moviemaker conceded that elements of the fourth instalment of the franchise didn't work, but nonetheless hinted he would be on board for a fifth.
The first three movies, starring Harrison Ford, are held in high regard by film fanatics, but Kingdom of the Crystal Skull generally fell short of expectations. One particular scene, in which Indiana survives a nuclear blast by hiding in a refrigerator, was generally ridiculed. Spielberg explained, "Blame me. Don't blame George. That was my silly idea. People stopped saying 'jump the shark'. They now say, 'nuked the fridge'. I'm proud of that. I'm glad I was able to bring that into popular culture". Harrison Ford has previously spoken of his desire to make a fifth movie, telling MTV News he'd "love" to do another, and Spielberg appeared to confirm the speculation to Empire, saying, ".He is working on Indy V. We haven't gone to screenplay yet, but he's working on the story. I'll leave it to George to come up with a good story".
A movie that certainly looks likely to appear before Indiana Jones V, is a fourth instalment of the Jurassic Park franchise. Spielberg confirmed the script is now complete, saying, "We have a good story. We have a better story for four than we had for three..."Ken

Even if George came up with a story they're all happy with next week, we'll still be looking at 2 years for a screen play on past performance, a year of preproduction ... I don't see it happening in Fords time

Maybe it will start off with Indy at Senior Citizens Home and finding out that a Nazi doctor from one of the concentration camps is also living there. The doctor is performing horrible experments on the patients. The cllmax is an awesome wheel chair race through crowded hallways.
Wait! I'm the same age as Harrison, Do I really want to see that?

I really believe there are a million story lines where Indy could be 70 years old and it could still be a heck of a movie. I found the last movie distressing. Poor Harrison couldn't even stand up striaght in some of the shots.
You know this isn't like the James Bond movies where you can have different guys play the main character. There is and will always be only one Indiana Jones and that's Harrison Ford.

My humble opinion is that, "Ford is Indiana Jones." Maybe to another generation they could pull it off, but not mine. That's my mind set.

There is NO! other than Ford if Harrison doesn't play the role then Idny5 shouldn't happen and shouldn't be made for the next generation because the next GEN! doesn't get it! they don't deserve it most of them are just mind less punk's and into movies that are basically CRAP ON THE BRAIN!  and do we really want George's and Steven's take on what the next GEN thinks about a good old school Dr Jones Adventure flick HELL NO!!!  |

I agree with the next Gen stuff - If they're going to stick with Harrison though I'd actually like to see a more grown-up film (as the original audience have). Something like an old Bogart flick. A bit less action and a little more mystery- more suited to a man of Ford's age. The Maltese Falcon for instance would have made a perfect Indy vehicle

Now we are in total agreement. Less action and more substance. The movies you mentioned are two of my all time favorites. The problem is it will never happen. The demographics for the movies these days are based on a 7th grade mentality. Sharply written screen plays are a thing of the past.

I've debated in defense of the fridge many times before, but that aside, as long as Spielberg and Ford can convince Lucas to come up with a substantial script, not one that was culled from several different ones over the years between films, then I hope they can redeem the franchise.

I wasnt even alive when the Last Crusade came out in theaters, and even I want Harrison to play Indy. I believe they can produce a look-a-like, but I don't believe they can produce the same vibe that Ford brought to the character... And Harrison seems like that hard headed type that would still play the part even if it kills him in the process, just for the fans. Not for himself, or the money (well... maybe... haha), the fans. The Ford/Lucas/Spielberg trio has always been a success... I hope they make this one better than the last. Lets end it with a bang shall we?  |

You have to go back a Loooonnnggg time to find the last really good film Harrison made. I'd love to see another great Indy film (or even one as good as LC which I thought was weaker the Raiders or temple ) but I have no faith in Lucas' ability to come up with a decent story in the time available or his ability to compromise on someone else's better ideas, or on Harrison's ability to judge a decent script from a duffer. IMHO the future of Indy in the cinema is bleak in the short or medium term.

There only so many rabbits you can pull out of a hat. Also there are other elements at play. With fame and fortune comes a tendency to lose a lot of the creative drive that brought you success. Lucas had a heck of a run with American Graffiti, Star Wars, and Raiders. He's a genus and I can't imagine how that much success would affect you and your creative talents. Thank God he did what he did. He was good, he was very good.

The Indiana Jones series is famous for making the MacGuffin the object of Dr. Jones' search. Wouldn't it make more sense to do some research, find a really good MacGuffin (there are still plenty out there) and then build a story around it? It would have to be a damn good movie, though, and not just a slightly less smelly bag of crap. |

Indy V would need more than a good story and a good MacGuffin to be a good movie... Spielberg will have to go back to his old school way of film making.... you know, back when everything wasn't so well lit.

Kaminski's lighting style is hardly what I'd call well-lit. It's full of light blooms, extreme saturation, and fogging. It's not even that he's playing with shallow focus-- his images are just hazy. And I seem to recall a lot of crushed blacks and extreme contrast.
Slocombe, on the other hand, presented very naturalistic imagery for the original trilogy. I'd argue that the original films are well-lit, classically lit. That 4th film nonsense just reeks of contemporary lighting fads, however.

I'm also pretty sure jnicktem's "well lit" remark was sarcastic. GCR, I don't think it makes much sense either, to come up with a story that has no treasure chosen yet. It seems to me that the treasure itself should be the driving force for the story. Duh. This could also be a huge forecast that the cart is once again being put before the horse. What's worse is that the horse may in fact, already be dead. Then again, a less important treasure in the story (I think of a McMuffin everytime I read Lucas's term... so I'm saying treasure  ) may indicate that Indy 5 will dwell more on the new marriage of Indy and Marion. You know, watching little Mutt grow into the hat and whip, and such. Maybe they are searching for that perfect little home in the suburbs. The quaint little cottage with just the right backyard, friendly neighbors and no booby traps in the garden or cursed ritual block parties. How about.... "Indiana Jones and the Illusive MacGuffin"?
