I see penman, the henry, adventurebil, peter bros, ect. I see alot of nice hats but want a hat to have the look and last when in rain snow, just wearing it. so,who is the place to buy from? Thanks,

An AB or a Penman will probably be the most up your alley. And at that, the Penman is the cheaper of the two, and it is still a quality hat like an AB.

I have an AB Henry and it's just outstanding. If you're not willing to spend an extraordinary amount of money, but still want an extremely reliable, screen-accurate and downright gorgeous hat, then the Henry is your way to go.

It's not all about the money. I want a nice product that looks out of the movie. I think i would like to do better then the todds hat for i hear they are very stiff. What is the difference between a penman and a henry??

AB=AdventureBilt They created the hat for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and have a near-perfect Raiders bash. Steven

Yeah, don't like the look of the Downtowner. It's kinda cartoonish. I have an Uptowner, which is decent. The shape was pretty nice when it first came, but sadly it's shrunk and tapered a good deal. And anyway, I don't see them on his site anymore...

What is the difference between a penman and a henry?? A Penman is custom made for you completely by hand. A Henry is a factory made hat. Although, it is by far the best factory made hat I have ever seen/owned. You can't go wrong with either of them. But out of the two I would pick a Penman because they are just better quality plus it's custom.

Agree with jnicktem on that one. My Penman Raiders beaver is the finest hat I've ever owned. Someone once said that Penman hats are pieces of art and that is exactly what they are. I STRONGLY recommend not to bother with cheaper hats because the difference is like night and day.

I saw a hat penman did on this site,i think it was rabbit and it was a great looking hat. Very movie looking. One thing is it seems penman is a 5 month wait and the ab is a 6-8 week wait. Maybe i should get some prices from mr penman before i decide on the two. THANKS all. ALSO- how do i check messages that people send to me?? Trying to learn this site. Thanks

Penman and AB's are VERY VERY similiar in material and craftsmenship wise. With the AB you will get it in 6-8 weeks, but the cost is $650 for beaver, and $300 for rabbit. A Penman beaver is nearly $200 less and comes with a really nice leather hat box.

Haha. Although you gotta admit, Steve has a different system than you do. Plus he is finally getting caught up with all of his orders! Let's just hope he stays healthy!

The man is a machine. It would kill me to work the 16 hour days/ 7 days a week that he was doing after Indy 4.
I agree. I want him to focus on himself first and foremost.

Beaver is superior to rabbit. It is denser and much more resiliant to water and taper. Buy a Beaver hat from either Penman or AB, and you might never have to have it reblocked! That said, the rabbit that both AB and Penman use is the highest quality rabbit felt available.
To check PM's, there should be a small notification in the bottom right hand of the homepage of this site.

Buying a hat is like buying furniture, you get what you pay for, and if you buy a solid product you will be satisfied without question.
Buying a Penman will payoff for decades. John's hats are precise, unmatched quality and he has a vested, personal interest that will guarantee you a hat that will not disappoint for the rest of your life. In fact, you'll try to create reasons to buy a second or a third...
There are many options, but John Penman is not a factory, he's an artist.
Thanks again John, I love my hat.

Having a Penman Raiders in rabbit, it's a great hat. Not only does it look great, but it feels well made. You're gonna be happy with a Penman. Beaver is better than rabbit, but his rabbit felt is high quality.

Hi Bigguedo,
You can't go wrong with either AB or Penman!!!! just save yourself the time, and money, with not buying some low quality factory hats because the price is cheaper and the waiting time shorter, if you're looking for a good quality hat that will last you you'll be dissapointed by taking the easy route. Like many said, you get what you pay for. Just a little advice...
Regards JM

if i go with penman i will not see this hat till christmas. Thats the only down fall. I'm sure his hats are among the best but the wait is long for me. Thanks for the help and the tips about this. now,i need to think about wating or gettin a hat that is said to be a good product with a shorted wait time.
