Dear Gentlemen and Ladies,
I am VERY proud to announce, that Adventurebilt has gotton a new member who will soon start production of the probably finest, handcrafted leathergoods around. Big words, I know, but what I've seen so far really takes my breath away (and here I thought I had seen it all).
Here's a lil' trivia to fill you in: After a business appointment that I had in Northern Denmark last Friday, I had the chance to meet our very own JEEP at his place, to give him his AB-Dlx. and to spend a couple of hours with a fellow gearhead. My good impressions on this man from earlier e-mails and phonecalls was more than confirmed and after some chit chat about the hat and other stuff, Jakob showed me some of the leathergood he had crafted. While he explained how some minor details that he wanted to fix yet (and which I honestly didn't even see AFTER he showed me), I had plenty of time to test the water resistancy of his good, due to me sitting and drooling over it ;D He showed me a holster that he had gotton from another supplier (which again looked very nice to me) and again pointed out some details that gave me a very hard time seeing. I've seen PLENTY of Indygear leathergoods over the last year on various occassion such as summits and cometogethers, but Jakob's handcrafted leathergoods just blew me away.
So when I had finally dryed away the drool from his stuff, my pants and his floor, it kind of stroke me and I turned around and asked him right up, if he'd be interested to become a member of Adventurebilt. Then I kind of regret to overrun the man who had invited me for dinner like that, and told him to think about it, and I’d go and ask Steve for permittance in the meanwhile.
Well, I think I’ve stressed your patience enough for now, so I won’t get into details, how I couldn’t sleep all night in excitement etc. etc. etc. To put it short, Steve aggreed to letting Jakob comming aboard and Jakob made up his mind in the meanwhile too.
As mentioned above, he wants get rid of some invisible „flaws“ yet, but should be up and running in round about two months. Of course I’ll post pictures as soon as I can.
So a heartly welcome from my side Jakob. May this joint venture bring you as much joy as it brought to Steve and me.
Regards,
Marc

That's pretty cool. I know I've been very tempted to get one of Jeep's bag straps. Only problem is I don't wear my MKVII with an Indy strap anymore - but if I change my mind I'll know who I'll be ordering from. Interesting how Adventurebilt is expanding - I wonder what else they'll end up offering???

Thank you! That was the whole idea behind this!
Well, since you stopped making bullwhips, I can tell for sure, that it ain't gonna be bullwhips ;D I wouldn't want to buy from anyone else and even the ever so picky Jakob was truly impressed by my Pagey bullwhip that I brought with me.
Regards,
Marc

Well it would surely be an honour to be part of the AB team - but I think I would probably find it too stressful. Apart from anything else, my store of lead tape is nearly finished and I've yet to find anywhere to get any more.

Wow, this is great news. Congrats to Jeep on the new job. Marc, will Jeep be helping out with the hats or is this a way to expand the business beyond the hats? I'm a little confused.......Well, I'm always confused so this isn't anything new. ;D

Ah, I just saw this over at COW. It's nice to see Jeep will be offering belts, whip holders , bag straps and holsters that can be customized. I can't wait to see pics of this stuff......especially the holster.

I think this is will be an awesome combination for both Marc and Jeep! I have the highest respect for Marc's attention to detail, and also have no doubt that Jakob (Jeep) is just as picky about such things. With Marc offering the ultimate quality Indy fedora, the new HJ by Marc, and now the highest quality leather straps, belts, and holsters, I hope to see the sales really take off for you guys. When you get to the stage where photos of leather products and pricing are available, I can add them to the website for more exposure. Make sure to put an advertisement in the vendor section of the Lounge too. Every place people can see your name, product information/pricing, website address, and contact information is a plus. Congrats and best of luck to you fine fellas on this new endeavor! Ken P.S. - It's a shame Pagey isn't game for selling more whips, as this would certainly add alot to the brand. Even selling them as Pagey Whips, through Adventurebilt.... would be a big boost too.

I am positive that if Marc is this impressed with your work Jakob it must really be amazing. I will be looking forward to seeing all the new additions. Cheers, John

Thanks for the support and positive feedback I was wery honoured when I was approached with this offer - and still is. Being offerd to produce leather under the AB brand is the biggest compliment to my work I have ever recieved. I have been making leathergoods for the danish medieval re-enactment society for a few year now, mostly belts, bags, pouches and scabbards. I am known for making high quality products, with a high level of authenticy and functionality. Everything I make is cut, dyed and stitched by hand - and the leather I use is top-grade. The items I will be offering under the AB name is; Gunbelts, with the choice of either ROTLA, TOD or LC hardware. The customer can choose to have it handstitched (the period-accurate way) or fitted with Chicago screws. Backstraps, with the choice of either ROTLA/TOD of LC hardware. Fitted with Chicago screws. I can fit the backstraps with brass hardware, instead of the standard silvered/nickeled hardware, if the customer wishes it. Whipholders, both a screen-accurate and a more "practical" model. Holsters, first off a ROTLA holster, but later on a TOD and LC holster as well. All my belts and backstraps will come with the option of grooves or no grooves. The belts, bagstraps and whipholders will be made after measurements provided by the customers. And all the products can be dyed in whether colour the customer wishes. Options is the keyword in my production - the customer can choose between screen-accuracy (and the choice of which of the three movies they would like their gear to represent) or their own personal tastes/ideas. This wouldn't have happened without all the positive feedback I have gotten from this forum through the time - thank you all! Regards. Jakob

Veeeeery interesting how this all comes to be. Still, it's about time somebody picked up on JEEP's leather goods and got them into the public eye. Adventurebilt does work nicely as a general gear tag. Congrats, JEEP for finding a vendor to get your goods out there, and to AB for looking beyond hats and having the idea of building the Adventurebilt name beyond hats and continuing along the lines of quality. A good deal all around.

Talking options; the customer can chose which colour thread he/she would like the stitches to be made with: white, brown or black.
I usually use waxed linen thread - its the most period accurate and it is extreamly sturdy. I can, if the customer wishes it, use white nylon thread, but I wouldn't reccomend it, as it has the ability to cut into the leather and damage the stitching holes.

So is there going to be a special section on either of the AB sites where we can order and see the prices for Jeep's stuff?

I have nothing to do with Steve's AB site, but then again... Steve has nothing to do with this venture either. The products can be linked from the main site link: www.adventurebilt.com and have it's own leather goods page, or be added to Marc's site: www.adventurebiltdeluxe.com specifically. I'm thinking the first option would be better because the template used for Marc's site doesn't allow much room for expansion. I will need to add his HJ production info and testimonials as it is, when I get photos and info for both. In the end, it will happen as Marc sees fit, since it was done for him in the first place. I can certainly see a separate leather goods page linked from the main AB welcome page as a great way to do it though. This would also leave room for anything else they decide to sell in the future too. Of course.... the whole thing will be picked apart no matter how it's done. People that have never volunteered to do anything for someone are usually the first ones to critique or complain when it comes out. I'm not speaking of anyone around here either, just to be very clear. I would love to see a full time webmaster do a totally professional company site for Adventurebilt, that co-brands both hat divisions and the leather goods as well. But, that sort of stuff is not cheap, and all three of those guys are doing this as a hobby with very little profit in it at all. As long as the products are shown with prices and contact info, the battle is half won anyway. Ken

Excellent ideas through and through Ken I like the first option as well. The www.adventurebilt.com as a main page from where you'll be taken to seperate sites, depending on what you're looking for. Jakob and I have found a way to make the taxes a LITTLE smaller, by shipping the items from Germany. While the added value taxes in Denmark are 25%, we currently have 19% in Germany. Since I (as a registered vendor) can purchase goods from within the EU, without paying added value taxes (I have to pay them once I resell the goods though), we can undercut the Danish added value taxes by 6%. Not much, but everything helps Regards, Marc
