Pics of a prototype of the Raiders' holster should have been up this week - but I am not yet satisfied with the grooves on the flap, strap and egde of the holster - I need to get myself a better tool for making them. I am working hard figuring out which one would work best.
Regards.

BTW Agent5, would you choose brown or white thread as the most SA?
Regards.

Sorry, Jakob. I didn't see this question until now. I would think it would be an off-white ot tannish color for the stitch. I gotta go back over some screen caps.

Thanks Stella Here's the first real update: The freshly cut - and uncoloured - prototype for the AB Raiders holster. There are still a few things I would like to change - and suggestions are still wery welcome Later this evening I will colour it - and hopefully I will have it sewn and treated with leather dressing sometime tomorrow. More updates will follow soon. Regards. Jakob

Ahhh! I can see you modified the patterns a little (again?). Looks really promising buddy!
Can't wait to hold it in my hands.

This is the second revision.
Just a note: the "bend" in the upper edge of the holster is mostly due to the leather bending a little in the pic.
Regards.

Two prototype Raiders holsters in the dyeing process. The colour will be much lighter once dry. I am not sure I am compleatly satisfied with this colour - it looked quite diffrent on the sample at my supplier. This leather is not responding wery well to the colour - especially not on the rough side. I will have to source some diffrent leather - quite irritating, as in all other aspects this leather is perfect. Regards. Jakob

Here's the first prototype Raiders holster. The colour is way too dark - aparently the colour-sample I saw at my supplier had faded in the sun. How stupid is that?!! There are stille some issues with the end-plug I need to resolve - but I am quite happy with the overall shape of the holster. Pics of the second prototype is due tomorrow. Regards. Jakob

Wow... that's a sweet looking holster my friend! If the first prototype looks this good, imagine how nice they will be when you have made 500 of them in the first month! ;D Ok, maybe you weren't planning on making that many just yet. But, the extra money would be nice, I'm sure. Congrats on a fine job, Ken

For a prototype, I'm quite impressed Especially considering what my prototype hats looked like to start with (still got one of them, being my yard hat now...). The leather seems to have some characteristics, that I've only seen on screen shots, as for example the way it folds in the stitching area. And the accuracy of the groves are just to die for!!! - Wonder if it would be an idea to add the groves you've got on the "belt" to the back part where you put the gunbelt through... Granted, I've never seen an original holster, but I think it would add some continousity to the overal design. Once the leather fades a little and the white thread gets a yellowish hint to it - which I'm sure will happen over time - it'll be pretty darn close IMHO. Are there any chances to distress the second prototype? Thanks for the great update JEEP! Regards, Marc

Second prototype: Much better finish - but still the same colour issue. This holster has grooves on the belt-strap. The end-plug is better than on prototype no. 1 - but still far from the way I want it. Regards. Jakob

Wow, very nice jeep! I love the color of that holster. I can't wait to see the rest of your stuff once you start working on it.... By the way does anyone know what I can do to prevent the dye from my bag strap from coming off on my shirt? I was sweating like a pig the other day when I was taking my new pics and when I got home I found that the strap's coloring had come off on my shirt. Jeep, if you or anyone else knows what I can do please just PM me. I would appreciate it I don't want to throw this thread off track......

Thanks Rub the backside and edges of the strap har with a soft dry cloth untill the colour stops rubbing off (this may take a while - and some times, depending on the dye, it doesn't stop rubbing off). Afterwards treat the strap with leather-dressing - and rub the backside and edges with the cloth, if the colour rubs off continue untill it stops. This is actually the best (and safest) method to remove any extra dye in the leather - but again; depending on the dye it may or may not work. It is more or less impossible to prevent dyed leather from rubbing off - unless you treat the leather with a transparent flexible lacquer and that I won't reccomend as it will dry out the leather and "kill" it. /Jakob
