For no real reason, I decided to take a photo of my black leather (cowhide) biker jacket. Even after a coating of Pecards last year, it remains tough as nails, and a bit stiff. How many other types of leather jackets do you folks own? Ken

Nice lookin' jacket, RB!!! I had a buddy who owned a jacket like that in highschool, it was tough and stiff he used to call it his "body armor". I currently have three leather jackets. My Wested lambskin Raiders jacket, a black lambskin jacket from Wilson's (the one with the cool, Raiders like wrinkles in it) and a heavy, brown-cowhide, distressed bomber style jacket (not an A-2 and not an Indy style, sort of a hybrid...but lighter in color than the Wested). This jacket was my everday "Adventure" jacket before I got my first Wested (I sold that jacket) and later in between Westeds before I ordered my second. I'll throw some pics up later on today. -GCR

Thanks GCR! Those kind of jackets are like body armor for sure. I only paid $99 for it, probably 15 or so years ago, and it still looks like it's new. Cowhide may not be the most Indy looking of all the leathers, but it sure is tough! Like I said before.... I was just bored and for some reason, thought I would take a photo of that jacket. I have a suede one, and a longer, dressy trenchcoat looking one too. But, I figured people might enjoy seeing a leather jacket stand up on it's own. Thanks again, Ken

~Y........M.C.A. - It's fun to stay at the ........Y..........M.....~
Just kidding. I had one of those in High School, too. There's something about these jackets that is always cool and they do feel like armor. They just have that hard to lose Village People stigmatism about them. Every once in a while, with the wrong mix of clothes that stands out more. But man, you can wear those things in anything without worrying about damage. They never got so popular that they got ridiculously expensive either and have always been a default goto leather.
I have two Westeds, one US Wings, and a brown something bomberesque leather and that's about it. Of all of them, the US Wings has proved the most transitional from "gear" to "A-2esque" cold weather jacket in public without shouting Indy. The lambskin Wested is for pics and "non-public" adventuring and hiking. The goat Wested sits in a drawer serving no purpose but to happily remind me that my "Letterman Indy" cost me around $390 when I finally decided to stop paying to get it "fixed".

~Y........M.C.A. - It's fun to stay at the ........Y..........M.....~ ;D The goat Wested sits in a drawer serving no purpose but to happily remind me that my "Letterman Indy" cost me around $390 when I finally decided to stop paying to get it "fixed". OUCH. I really hate hearing stories like that, of folks spending more and more dough on something hoping it'll turn out right only to end up with a useless piece of gear and a much lighter wallet. I mean, this stuff ain't cheap to begin with, so it outta be right the first time. As has been mentioned elsewhere, Wested really needs to double check a lot of things in the QC department, especially on the jackets with mods. Hopefully the new Wested jacket that will use the Agent 5 specs will correct some of these issues, but Tone, after reading about your saga with the goat Wested I wouldn't blame you for never doing business with them again. Anyways, I don't want to turn this into a "what's wrong with Wested" thread... -GCR

I would hesitate bringing up the YMCA reference in Florida during Bike Week though. Thousands and thousands of very straight bikers may take strong offense to that one. Ken

Oh yeah. The bikers do wear 'em also. And in full biker regalia and ON a bike it works. It's still a motorcycle jacket. Still, I'd better be more careful, so........ ~........Y M C A........~ Alright, alright. ENOUGH! These actually are a cool jacket style that just won't die. It's got a Mad Max thing about it also. It could have been worse. The dude from the Village People could have worn a Wested. Think of the psychological implications of that. ;D I should pick one of these up again. They're usually sturdy leather for around $100.00 or less, too. They also don't fit "poofy" the way an A-2 sometimes does. Well, the department store A-2s that is.
