I voted important.....however I am no longer collecting props. My reasoning is that if you are going to collect props they might as well look as close to what we see on the big sceen.

While I agree with G-MANN, I decided to vote for just "important", as I do think there is some room for personal creativity when it comes to certain props. But for the most part, props are typically at their best when they are as close to the real deal as possible. -GCR

I voted "not important" too. now I'm not a collector myself, not even when it comes to tomb raider stuff, but I'm always looking for props or stuff to use with my photographs, and my personal approach is that it doesn't matter if it's completely accurate - as long as it looks good and realistic and captures the spirit.

I agree on most of your comments. I my self like very screen acurate props.but I tend to add not so very screen accurate props to my collection.I mean if own props it will be most likely that you own b-props or back up props.like the RA headpiece with the red stone,or the grail that is not terracota, and so on
but some times I change my feelings about this and just add very screen accurate props to my collection.that's just me...I never can decide what I like most

Greetings I voted (Important)... and ... I voted not important ONLY because I like IE's approach to the props in all the movies......He's going back and re-creating the props... only going to make them how they would have been done in real life.....Which, I think is quite unique......What's he done with the Raiders map and the hovito darts so far is very impressive. So a little of it for me is that I'd rather own something unique then something everyone has.......That's NOT to say I'd never buy any SA props as well.... As stated by PH... I took a VERY different approach to the SA props... Instead of going FULL Hollywood hype, I decided to use a more "archaeological realism" view/state of mind to the props that I shall render. I am NO professional as is indianahold... (and with this stated).... I like HIS Diary creation ...to me ...it is a(great) mix of SA and Realism... I am more of a realist (however) when it comes to things as this... I have the artistic schooling, know how, and tools, I just didn't (use) them as I am now... and going to be... Hey, I am retired so "why not"? Don't get me wrong... I do like SA, but why get SA, when you/one can create "unique" verses what everyone "already has" and is available everywhere? Just my mere two cents worth, Gentlemen... Respects IE

hi.thanks for saying those comments on my diary.yes for my last diary I tried to make it more realistic.lately I have been wanting more props to look like they were more real life but also very reconizable from the films.
I am in the progress of making my new diary wich wil enter my collection.I am gonna make it just like the archives diary prop, but no repeated pages....talking about that. for instance....If I was supposed to have SA prop diary I would have to go with an repeated page diary.I mean that real life is not repeated page diary.I mean come on?...... in real life can you see Henry Jones drawing those painstakingly drawings over and over and overfor no what so reason at all?LoL-hehe
so if somebody wants to make a diary I always think it should be non repeated, but if you want SA then repeated, yes
but I am shure I will make a SA diary one time in the next year or so?hehe.typical me...never can decide what I want,so why not do both?then my soul is finally at peace.LOL

I had to go with very important, but there are exceptions for me. Some of the stuff I've seen fans make is incredible and very authentic looking. Sometimes even more real than a prop (I think that Rock Ford's Sankara stones are great). I think that personal creativity by fans making their own props is great and part of that greatness is because a fan "makes it with genuine love". I would be proud to own and display some of the handcrafted props I've seen on this site (i.e. Sankara Stones, Diary, Hovito darts). On the flip side of the coin, I get kinda disgusted by "profiteers" (i.e. certain Ebay sellers) who just try to role out the sub-par crap renditions of cherished prop pieces. I've seen some crappy fertility idols and Grail chalices. If you're gonna sell as a business for a profit, then it should be A-one, top notch stuff (i.e. 100 dollar exact replica Ra head pieces). I prefer high end, high quality Indy stuff and, for the most part, will save money til I can afford the best. I prize attention to detail and durability. My preference is not for everybody though. I guess basically my take on this is: if your selling stuff as a business, it better be top notch. If your making stuff cuz you love it, Its got a magic all its own and I love that. Sorry if this sounded convoluted at all.

i voted important and not very important because altho i like having an SA prop it is much EZer to fined good closenufs and thay still look prity SA and i would not consider it not important because the hol point of having a prop is for it to atleest look like the one in the movie....but that is just me
