Anyone who has read the Max McCoy Indy novels knows of the Crystal Skull. I decided to hunt one down for myself, and really like this one: www.pushindaisies.com/candypress/scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=47It's 5" tall, weighs about 3 lbs. and made of clear cold cast resin. There are many options available online, but I wanted to share this one with anyone interested. Oh yeah, it only costs $19.95! I posted some photos with this skull in them, in my "Indy and the Crystal Skull" thread, in the Photo Gallery section of the Lounge. indylounge.proboards105.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=gallery&thread=1154668303&page=1I also bought one from another vendor that has a moveable jaw, and is a touch clearer. However, I like the look of this one alot better for this particular use. I'll be glad to pass along other links I found with good alternatives, if anyone wants them. Ken

Blues,
That skull looks great. I think I might pick one up myself before I get an Idol. It looks to me their both about the same size.
What was the total cost of this altogether after shipping?

Here's an interesting website about the origins of the real Crystal Skulls. If you have the time there are few interesting articles about it. www.world-mysteries.com/sar_6_1.htm

Thanks Pitfall.... altogether, it was maybe $26.00 or $27.00 with shipping.
Those sorts of real world crystal skull stories are what inspired Max McCoy to use it in his books.

By the way I looked at some of the local bookstores and none of them had any Indy novels. If I end up buying the McCoy books it will have to be online.
Thanks for the info, Blues. I may end up ordering one. That's a great price for something that looks that good.
Like I said I haven't read any of the McCoy books and I barely remember what the ones I do have were about. It might not be a bad idea for us to make a list of all the things Indy has gone after in the books, comics and movies along with relics we think he should go after and then start putting together a collection of props to go along with the stories.
First though we need help to make the list.

Yeah, I saw that one as well... but, it has a hole running through it from top to bottom. They used that to hang it on a pole I also bought a crystal skull with a moveable jaw, but liked the one I used better. I will post pics of the other one soon too. There are alot of great options out there, that's for sure. It just depends on what look you're going for. Ken

Okay, here's one of the photos with the other skull I bought. I'll do some studio type shots with both of them soon. This also shows where I actually was for both of the shots in the Crystal Skull photos thread too. Living room photos..... no passport needed, no shots needed, no sweating! Oh yeah, that's the new Noel Howard shirt as well... Ken

Yeah, these are really starting to creep me out a little bit. ;D
Both of your skulls look great Blues but the one with the removable jaw looks a bit clearer than the other one you used in your photos. Are they both made out of resin?
I want to thank you for taking my mind off getting an Idol because now I want one of these. ;D
When I get one I have a great idea on how to use it in a gear pic.
I found some great photos of the real ones online and I plan on using one of those in a poster. This other idea is separate from that.
This has got to be one of the best "new" props I've seen come along at either site.
Maybe I missed it before but it seems like a lot of people are only concentrating on stuff seen in the films when there's so much more that can be done with props and using stuff like the novels and comics as a guide.

Thanks Pitfall! I'm not sure what the other skull is made from, but it looks like acrylic to me. It is clearer, but that's not necessarily a good thing. Most all skulls made from actual crystals are not clear at all. They are often very smokey, or totally opaque. That's the nature of the minerals used, of course.
The moveable jaw skull appears too clear to me, so much that it looks more fake. It's cool and I like it, just not as much. The skull in Max McCoy's novels had no hole through it for a pole to slide through either. That's another reason I didn't go that route. Several of the ones I have come across would make great props though. Some of the actual crystal skulls, carved in Brazil, are not that expensive either. But, they are usually very small.... and look creepy but not very much like real skulls.

Where did you get that one with the moveable jaw from? I didn't see it in any of the links unless I missed it and how much more was that one or was it the same price? I kind of liked the Skull at this link as well and then I started looking around. "Oh, my!" How exactly did you find this site, Dr. Jones? ;D www.exotic.co.uk/erotica/skull_crystal.htmlYeah, that guy looks like he has a horrible job. ;D Now if you'll excuse me I have to go towel off. ;D

;D You know.... I didn't even notice the other content of the site! I found this link with an online search for crystal skulls. The one with the movable jaw came from an Ebay company. I will look up their link and add it too. I bought it for $19.99 also, and around $7.00 shipping I think. Ken

By the way I did check the E-Bay site and it says that both skulls you own react to being put near a black light. It's says they glow. Have you tried this yet? For some reason I like the clearer skull with the movable jaw better. I don't know why though. Maybe it's because the other looks a little cloudy to me like you said. Let me know how both react in different lighting. That will help me in my choice on which one to buy.

I don't have a black light to test them with, but both are made from different materials. I imagine they would glow nicely, since they do so very well, with a maglight under them. Here is a shot I did of my crystal skull prop this afternoon: No special lighting in this one... just overhead room light. When nothing is behind the skull itself, you can see just how clear it is, yet it retains that quartz crystal look to it. I think it almost looks like it's made out of ice. Ken
