Hey Everyone first off I need to say hi, Since this is my first post. HI,
Well Ive got pretty much every Indy jacket (except Todds) and the one I wear the most is my cloth Indy jacket from U.S. Wings, but I had to dye it before I could wear it. Anyway I thought I would post pics of it if anyone is curious about how it turned out.
But first I need to figure out how to post pics. Can someone tell me how? I have the pics on my computer just need to know how to post them..

profwex, Welcome to the Lounge I would like to see the Jacket since I have never seen the cloth US Wings. As for posting pics you need to host then through someone like Photobucket Or ImageShack. I use Photobucket. It's free for average use. Once you upload your pictures there you can just copy and paste the "image" links here. Cheers, G-MANN

Hey, Profwex. Welcome. I've always avoided the cloth jackets (mostly because of their color, actually) so I'd be very interested to see how yours came out after the dye job. Pictures can be linked from another picture hosting site (such as Photobucket or Imageshack.) Imageshack is highly recommended and can be joined here: www.imageshack.us Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the Lounge! Hopefully you'll enjoy the 24 hour buffet (closed for repairs), the giant hot tub (drained due to fungus outbreak), and the lifesize poison date exhibit (no kidding, those things are huge!). I look forward to seeing your jacket photos and hope you enjoy the fun, creative people around here. Ken

Here are some details that might be helpful to anyone interested in trying this... First off I'm 5'4 and 160 pounds and this jacket is a small.. fits me like a glove.. I used a entire box of dark brown Rit Dye, and I just followed the directions. it only took about 30 minutes to achieve this color. Now I'm thinking of making it darker but I'm not sure..Guess ill just wait to see what everyone thinks of it first.. I love my leather jackets (wested and Gibson) thats why i prefer to wear this one daily so my leather jackets will last me.

Looks good. I was just about to ask about the details for the method of dyeing. The brown didn't come out too badly at all. I've seen the US Wings cloth jacket and it's natural color from what I recall (haven't checked it recently) is a bit light - More tan, is it? ) That darker brown looks better but yeah, I don't see why you couldn't try a shade or two darker. So, with a Wested and a G&B, you've decided on this one. Where's the fun in an Indy jacket that doesn't look lived in? I'm sure the cloth Indy is much more comfortable in the hot season, though.

I can see a lightweight jacket like that getting alot more use than a leather one, atleast in warmer regions. You said you dyed it, so I'm guessing it was lighter than it is now. It might even look good in other shades too (like charcoal), for an alternate look or color scheme to go with the alternate style of material. Thanks for sharing, Ken

Indiana Tone, your absolutely right, :)I should wear my leather more to make it look lived in ,but the weather here in Tn. is crazy, one day its freezing and the next its burning up hot, so as much as i would love to wear my wested I just don't get to, at least not on a daily basis. thanks again for helping me post these pics..

I hear you. Here in AZ it gets pretty hot but the lack of moisture makes a leather more bearable, I guess. (Well, that's not true, I just like wearing the leather even when there's no earthly reason to have it on in the summertime. Lamb's pretty light, though.) TN gets pretty muggy I imagine so I can see how the jacket "type" can become secondary real quickly. The more I look at the color of that collar, the more I think that jacket could easily stand a much darker shade of brown and almost pass for leather in pics. Of course, mixing RIT dye to do exactly that is a different story, isn't it? I'm going to take a crack at the bag and strap here: Todd's Costumes - WPG bag and a Todd's leather strap. (Close?) N/P on Imageshack. It's a very easy and convenient pic hosting site. (Hope you registered; it's much easier to keep track of all the pics under a registered name.)

Indiana Tone, I think your right again, Ive been wearing the jacket like this for about 2 months, but something was telling me to try and make it a little darker, I'm gonna try a mixture of black and dark brown and maybe a pinch of navy blue, i think that'll make it look much better..Ill post a few pics when its done.... I'm actually thinking of buying one more and trying a charcoal color from the get go. your very close on the bag, I got that from Todd, but the strap I made myself , I just went to the local Tandy leather and bought everything to put it together.. Ive even added one extra buckle to keep the 2 straps close together, just my preference..

Nice work on the bag strap! Looking at the jacket further.....the shade it has now gives it a nice Carhartt (sp?) type of work-jacket look with an Indy cut to it. If it goes too dark, it might end up looking UPS uniform Indy brown; also, you think that thread might stand out more as the jacket gets darker? It's doubtful the thread will hold any of the dye so it might stand out more as tan "framing" once the jacket goes darker. Just pondering scenarios.

Welcome to the Lounge, profwex! Thats a nice dye job you did there. Kinda reminds me of Wested's cloth jacket. I know what you mean about the weather. Its been the really warm here in WV too. Its been pouring the snow today though; and I LOVE it!

Hey guys thanks again for the warm welcome.. glad you like the dye job jweaver I'm still thinking of going darker, I mean this jacket is just a beater but I like it, Ive seen westeds cloth jacket and I like it, so I'm sure Ill be getting one in the near future.. I love my wested and Gibson and Barnes but I guess I baby them to much.. They are rather expensive. I'm just lucky I can wear off the rack sizes in both companies.. I'm looking forward to seeing Todd's jacket..
