I have a nice gun..however it has printing on it. What would be the best grain of sandpaper to remove the lettering but not damage the rest of the finish on the gun. Or is there another way? Chemical?
Thanks

You'll have to have it machine polished. There's really no other way. If it's matte stainless steel, this could ruin the finish. If it's polished stainless steel, wording can be machine polished right out without notice. Lots of people have this done on Ruger Vaqueros which have lots of printing on the barrels. If the logo is on an alloy frame, machine polishing could weaken it to the point that it becomes unsafe. If it's blued steel, you'd probably have to reblue the whole gun after the polishing to keep a uniform finish. There are a number of gunsmiths around who do work like this. Check out www.clarkcustomguns.com. I've dealt with them before and they seem competent and fairly priced. Whatever you do, keep it legal by staying far away from the serial numbers.
