If I bought one of the new models of 1917, would it be a mistake to have the barrel cut down to 4in? I want an indy 45 that I can shoot with high grain modern bullets. But for the price, would I be better off with an original? I do plan on shooting the gun. How much would cutting down the barrel deduct from the value of an older s&w compared to the new-in-box model 22 of 1917?
Also, could someone sum up any other mods I would have to do in order to make it look more like the Bapty..(obviously the front sight)
Thanks!

You could cut down one of S&W's new 1917's and it would be an Indy gun in every aspect. An original HE2 or 1917 is probably going to be just about as much as a new one. I personally wouldn't cut down an original one thats in good shape, just too much history and collector value, IMHO. If I was looking to for an Indy gun, I would jump on one of the new ones . I had the chance to look at one a while back an they are very nice.
