i jsut got a mail from gemma... I cannot get a Goatskin jacket with a front and back measurement of 34 inches!! she said that the only leathers that it can be done in is Pre-D cow and regular cow.. I REALLY DON~T want that at all...so I wrote her back about it.. but how does the Pre-D cow look... anyone have one.... i jsut.. can`t believe this... and whats even stranger is that i received a shipping e-mail... then got the one about the jacket not being able to be cut because of the sizing issue idk... HELP ME!!! ( damnit!! why can`t anything ever go my way!!!!!!!!!!) Cj

That is the problem with larger sizes. Unfortunately. The lamb and goat just are not big enough creatures to make that back panel in one piece. US Wings goes to the 2 piece back panel as soon as the jacket is an XL. Perhaps if you can live with a 2 piece back Wested might be able to make the jacket out of goatskin. However that would be your call.
Also Marc just had a look at Peter's latest samples and is ordering one from Horsehide. Which is another way you could go.
Cheers, G-MANN

Wow you are really not having much luck are you CJ. G-Mann is absolutely right they would have a lot of trouble getting a single piece of goathide or lamb big enough to cut the one piece back. Lambskins are teeny, cowhide looks like a comforter in comparison to a pillow.(sorta!). You might be able to get it in horse.
Take it slow, ask for some samples, make sure they can do the skins they send you... maybe ask about a 2 piece back.
Personally... I don't like their predistressed cowhide (looks too 80s to me), normal cowhide can look fab (see Stephana's), Horsehide can look great too, but it can be quite stiff to start with. All three of the above will be a lot heavier than your lamb.

I've ordered 48s in Lamb and goat, and had some used ones in both. I assume it is because you want the jacket longer than a Long sizing. Unfortunately, you may be S.O.L. on this one, altho I concur with the statements above,...horsehide is plenty big, and it looks really nice too. Probably what Indy's jacket WOULD have been made of it he were real, considering the time frame of the films. 'Blues

Are there pics of horsehide Wested's floating around?
Cj, I feel really bad for you. It seems it's been one thing after another as far as the jacket goes. Have you ever considered trying to just save up and getting a G&B Jacket? Wouldn't they have off the rack coats in the length your looking for?

I don't think they would have that length, either, Harry. We're talking about a back measurement of 34 inches. The average Raiders jacket is anywhere from 24"-28". 34" is REALLY long. Just picture your Wested with another 8 or 9 inches of back length. I think Horse and Cow is the only alternative. CJ, are you SURE you need a 34 inch back length? My friend Dan is 6'6", and he uses about a 27-28" back length for his Westeds. I would triple check. For a Raiders fit, you want the back to sit right about where the top of the back pocket of your pants is. So long as you don't wear your pants with a "gangsta sag", that is. 34 sounds more like a back length for someone 7'6" tall. 'Blues

Yeah, 'Blues is right. That 34" back length sounds more like a car coat than an Indy Jacket. I'm 6'2", wear a 48 long and I ordered my TOD jacket with a 27" back for the extra inch.

hmm.. y'know guys.. your right... i`m gonna see exactly how long they can go with the goat and go from there... Winston... I`m just about your height.. actually 2 inches above but.. whatever... perhaps a 27 back will work...

Winston, I think your jacket looks great by the way. CJ, I hope Wested can work something out for you because I don't know any other alternatives that will work for what your looking for.

The horsehide samples I saw last weekend were AWESOME. Soft as my 5 year old goatskin and a nice chocolate brown (not reddish).

How tall are you, CJ? 34" is way too long far an Indy jacket . I'm 6'3" and the jacket I'm wearing in this pic has a 32.5" back length. As you can see, it reaches almost mid-thigh on me. My Wested is a 46L TOD and measures 27" in the back. and the length is spot on for a TOD jacket, IMO.

I don't believe I've seen a horsehide Wested. I'm looking forward to seeing the jacket once you get it.
