Different hat makers. Don't order from Adventurebilt hats-- Steve Delk is seriously backlogged and still hasn't delivered hats guys have ordered as much as 6 years ago… I'd say the chance you'll get a hat is pretty slim.
Adventurebilt Deluxe is based in Germany. Sister company to Adventurebilt Hats. That's Marc Kitter's operation.
John Penman is based here in the US. He's probably your best bet on timeliness and price.

Contact John at Penman hats. You will not find a finer fedora anywhere. And if you want the best of the best, grab the pure beaver felt. Ask me how I know.

And I know, being that I've spoken to many guys who have bought from him. He continues to take orders, but he's back-logged upwards of 6 years. Just because he takes your money doesn't mean he'll ship you any thing...

I mean, he did say he got a quote for a month....
ANYWAY, yeah, I would shoot John a PM. I think his screen name is Bendingoak. He also has a facebook and instagram. Really cool guy with some awesome products. Not saying that the other guys are not, he is just the one I have had one on one experience with. Though I don't own a hat (yet), I figured the quality is as good as his personality.

Don't take it personally. I appreciate the heads up I can only assume a vendor is honest until proven otherwise. So when he quoted me at 4 weeks, I assumed that was an honest assessment. There are always going to be people who are not satisfied with any given product and its hard to know if that is the opinion you are receiving. -j

Nobody is pulling your leg about the delivery time of hats from Steve. There are far too many great places to get a nice Indy hat these anyway. You can't go wrong with Penman Hats if you live in the U.S. or Adventurebilt Deluxe from Marc if you are in Europe.

Ken Im just trying to figure out what is going to be most screen accurate at this point that wont be the same cost as my mortgage that I will see sooner rather than later and an Indy that can take a beating. Lots of information and opinions, still trying to cypher everything. I have read a few threads were John Penman himself has recommended AB hats over his own for durability. So that is what I went with. He has been really good about communicating with me thus far. I really do appreciate all the feedback from everyone. My payment to Steve at AB had already gone through before I had read the negative threads. Hopefully my experience will redeem the negative ones others have had. From what I have read, he is filling backorders and giving refunds through the new hat buyers like me. I will give him the benefit of the doubt, sounds like he has had some life curve balls. so we will see. Here is a big thread about it all over at the Fedora Lounge; www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?56878-Adventurebilt-hats-status-update-%28read-if-you-have-an-outstanding-order%29/page17&highlight=steve+delk-j

All everyone else can say is at this point is.... best of luck. If you get your hat before people that have waiting for YEARS to get theirs, something is seriously wrong. It's obvious that he can't fill a few years worth of orders quickly, using the money from new hat sales to pay for the materials for old orders.

His cancer nearly bankrupted him. He is using new orders to fund the old. Kind of a one for one New sale, funds the material for an older order. Not an ideal situation by any stretch, but he is bound and determined to fill every order. To keep new sales coming in, they need to be reasonable turn around Times. To fill and honor old orders he needs new sales. Not looking to start a flame thread, to justify what has happened or to upset any one. Just sharing my experience thus far and giving Steve the benefit of the doubt here. Similar information is given in the thread link i posted above. Thank you for the information that has been shared. ~joshuah

I recommend Steve over myself because he is Steve Delk. who has raised the bar and the standards for the Raiders/Indy hats. Before him, there wasn't a lot of choices and they all fell short. I doubt I said more usable then my own. I don't call my hats bulldog tough for nothing. ;-)
