Hello fellow Whip Enthusiasts!
I would like to introduce myself. I'm That Whip Guy. You might have heard of me in a recent uproar over a certain college in a certain state, which led to a certain activity being banned.
Yeah, That Whip Guy.
I caught sight of your forum thread concerning that particular event, and was reading it all morning. It actually prompted me to register on your site, if only to deliver a certain message to you all:
Thank you,
It was quite an experience, as you can imagine - going through the hullaballou of public forums, phone calls, e-mails, interviews, etc - all for a hobby that I felt was harmless. For a while I felt really on the spot. Feeling more than a little indignant, quite a bit alone, and feeling somewhat foolish that I had somehow turned from a 4.0 student and sometimes History Tutor into "That Whip Guy" that caused so much drama at the school.
But, within days of that event, and especially since the college newspaper published information on it - I didn't feel so alone. Suddenly I was hearing that long-time experts like Robert Dante` and Rhett Kelly were standing up for me. I was hearing how the whip-cracking enthusiasts from around the world were incensed about what was going on. I'd read blog posts, web posts, and Facebook posts; all whip crackers fired up about the situation.
I'm not here to re-open the story. It seems to me it has finally died down. I'm still cracking, you'll be happy to hear, albeit a bit less frequent. Thanks to this outcry, I met a great whip instructor from Utah, who took time out of his busy vacation to come up and spend a few hours with me.
But in all this, while I have remained largely quiet in the largely quiet over the affair (although, perhaps bludgeoning my Facebook friends with it for a time), I never got a chance to tell you guys Thank You. From the bottom of my heart. It truly humbles me that you all came to the defense of someone you really didn't know; insofar as to e-mail the college president over it!
It really shows what a great community this is, and I felt that you deserved to be shown gratitude from "That Whip Guy," who found himself embroiled in a twilight-zone controversy that stemmed from wanting to learn a hobby that was a little off the beaten path than, say, Golf.
Thanks guys.
