Antique Cowhide Indy-style Hero Jacket
Texas Steerhide "Legend" Jacket, Imported
I was going to order the 30th anniversary lambskin but then reading a little more into it I get the impression it just not durable. I want something for riding on my Harley, hiking while doing my photography . Is the lamb skin really this wimpy
So then I went to hit the order button Indy Style Hero Jacket and it seems on sizes all the have left is 3x sizes. Sent a email seeing if they will be restocking.
So then I look at the Texas Steerhide Legend jacket and see it is made in another country. Dont care about accuracy. Just like the general style and would like to know the opinion about this jacket if its a quality product or just junk that will fall apart on me from much use. Is it anywhere in the league of quality as the hero jacket.

I've had one for about a year and I love it. I wore it all winter long and through early spring, but not much since then since the summers here are in the 90s & 100s.
It's a very very dry leather, and a lighter shade of brown, so I've oiled mine a few times to darken it up. The liner is satin and had pilled up where it rubs again my phone, and a stitch or two has popped out at the bottom of the storm flap, but that happens on all of my jackets.
It's my only Indy jacket so I can't compare it to the hero jacket, but I've been very happy with it. I get compliments on it from everyone- my non-geek friends love the style, not realizing it's an Indy.

If ever there was a wimpy leather, it has got to be lamb. For dress up garments and stage props it is great because it drapes well, and compared with other leathers, it is quite thin. But for a real Indy jacket, you need something a little tougher. Look for cow/steer hide, horsehide, or goatskin. Goat gives you the best of both worlds because it has very high tensile strength, but it is not too thick, and it is very supple. Breaks in beautifully. I have a goatskin jacket from G&B. Excellent quality. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. So lamb is out since it would get heavy abuse and probably rained more then a few times on the bike.
Maybe someone can answer my question about the differences between the two leathers who have experience with these jackets. I would spend more but you know the old story about the wife not understanding. Specially when you have a few other hobbies. So 250 is my limit.

Hi SSVS...... The best thing to do I think, is contact the jacket manufacturers that interest you, and ask for leather swatches of the various hides. I understand US Wings even makes one in bison hide. But save up a little longer, because if you want a quality jacket, $250.00 may not get it for you unless it's on sale. US Wings has pretty good promotions sometimes. Keep your eyes peeled.

I visited US Wing a couple weeks ago and purchased the stiated lamb xl. I looked at all their jackets there and if anyone has any questions I might be able to help.

Thanks for the info. So lamb is out since it would get heavy abuse and probably rained more then a few times on the bike. Although lamb skin is not know for it's durability, it's not going to fall apart because it gets rained on... FWIW, This type of jacket isn't very good for riding your motorcycle. The large collars are going to flap up and down once you pick up speed and the large sleeve openings allow a lot of air to enter the jacket.
