Your opinion on this leather Stetson hat

Hello,

I'm new here.

I have seen your numerous links about indiana Jones hats. Those are very good.

Now I'm coming to you with a question.

When going to Disneyland Paris I bought a 45-50 euros indiana Jones "official" hat. It's Lucasfilm approved but it has low borders and they can't quite shape up properly. i can only modify the front of the hat to bend it a little but I can realy up the side part straight.
A stamp inside says it's made of 100% wool and made in France. i'm wondering if by wool they mean "fur felt". The material seems a bit thin for a quality hat though.

So i'm looking for something that can actually resist to rain and that I could wear instead of a baseball cap mostly in the summer.

When going to hat sellers, they have numerous replicas and especially one priced at 130 euros. But then they say it's a winter hat. I'm afraid to be over sweating in it you see. (http://is.gd/ocHlzv)

Also I'm a bit afraid of the retro look that it will give me overall. I mean I can't picture myself wearing this hat with a t-shirt for example. Again it's mostly to replace a traditional baseball cap with an indy look

I then changed my idea and looked for leather hat. I found one which is made by Stetson (the greasewood). It has this fedora look and its border have metal in it so that i can shape it the way I want.

What do you think ? Is it too much of a cow boy hat or close enough to a sort of more modern Indiana Jones hat ?

"100% wool" means that the felt is made from the hair (or wool) of a sheep.
Normally, "fur felt" is made of either the hair of rabbit/hare, beaver, or a mixture of the two.

Wool hats have a bad habit of shrinking when exposed to moisture and heat.

I wear fur felt hats very often with jeans and a t-shirt. If you can wear the hat with confidence, it will always look good on you. (Nothing is more obvious and stands out more than someone who is self concious of their fedora!)

The leather hat looks very cowboy-ish to me and does not make me think of Indy when I see it (not a bad looking hat though). As it is a waxy leather, it will probably hold up to rain without problem, but, I doubt it will be any cooler than a felt hat during the summer months.

If you are looking for a "fur felt" that will resist rain, and give you an "Indy" look for under 100 euros, may I suggest the Akubra Federation 4.

Leather also shrinks over time... Then again, everything does except for beaver.. The shaping wont hold up in a leather hat unless it has a permanent stiffening or a wire band running on the outside edge of the brim. Not to mention how hot itll get during the summer. A good looking hat though!
