It looks pretty good. It's strange how the brim is smaller than your other ones. I know the brims on the older Akubra Feds ran a little large. I also understand that if you are going by the original HJ specs, the brim can be a little bigger or smaller depending on the hat size. Still, it's surprising how much smaller the brim is compared to your Penman. Otherwise, it's a very smart looking hat. What bash are you planning to give it? -Josh

What bash are you planning to give it? -Josh Not sure. This will be my 3rd attempt at an open crown bash. Any suggestions? Well, Raider's bash might be all but out. You'll notice how the brim has that upward wave when sitting on a flat surface? That's because the hat came with the brim pre-formed. Instead of it being flat or even snapped stiffly up like some Akubras, the hat has the rear turned upward and the front turned down. A Raiders turn makes the brim to wavy and since I'm too chicken to add a little steam to straighten out the brim (I'm still haunted by the shrinkage I experienced with my other Akubra not pictured here because it has since been deemed unworthy to be seen by anything other than fish), I may just leave as is and do a CS or LC without the side-brim-curl. The felt is very soft. Much softer than an Akubra. It has a nice "nap" that feels silky but it lacks that clay-like malleable quality to it.

Well, you might try a Raiders style bash, without the turn. Introduction style?
I however, would recommend either a Crystal Skull or Last Crusade bash. My second favorite style is between LC and CS. Personally, I was never much a fan of the TOD bash. To each his own.
No matter what style you choose, I'm sure it will look great!

Looks good- may I recommend starting the bash out with a CS? And then if you feel like it gradually tighten the pinch if you think you want to go for a Raiders.

Yeah, I think that's the direction I will go. It's a good looking bash and depending on how the felt reacts, I could always change it up later if I want.

Thanks GCR. I haven't bashed it yet. I think I may be returning it to Todd's.

i think that the bash will only make it look like a last crusade hat ..... my ''uptowner'' is like the lc style and the "raider" is pretty similar to the uptowner

Read over on C.O.W that I failed to give my hat size. Sorry 'bout that. The size on this hat was 58. :-)

Does anyone think Todds crushable fedora is any good? What does officially licensed really mean as regards an indy hat? It is a dorfman pacific hat.
How do you remove the indy symble pin on the ribbon?

How do you remove the indy symble pin on the ribbon? Officially licensed means it doesn't look a thing like Indy's hat. The Dorfman hat is available everywhere. I would recommend you save up a another $50 or so and buy one of Todd's fur felt hats or a Fed IV from hatsdirect. -Josh

At first i read you wrong and thought you said officially licensed means it looks like the real deal. But i bought it already. I'll check out the fed iv from hats direct though. Should i go for the tawny fawn or dark brown? Read more: indylounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=fedora&thread=5878&page=1#ixzz29AVXIU67

I'll check out the fed iv from hats direct though. Should i go for the tawny fawn or dark brown? I've actually never seen the tawny fawn in person. From all the pictures I've seen online and the reviews, the color is too light. It's more like a tan color. Dark brown is good, but it's still a little off. It's more of a greyish brown opposed to Indy's hat which has a richer color. If you were to take some fuller's earth to the dark brown version, it should give it more authenticity. -Josh

But i think i will go for the dark brown fed iv sometime soon. I wont go for Todds fur blend as it will work out more expensive with shipping and customs charges as well. I think dark brown fed iv will be closer, colour and materials wise to Indys than my crushable one. Thanks for the recommendation. Village hats and caps also do some Indy fedoras, dont know if you know about that company.? www.hatsandcaps.co.uk/Christys-Hats-Fur-Felt-Iconoclast-Fedora-P138895/
