I was wondering what time I would need to order a hat if I would want to recieve it around the middle of May. Any brand would do, but I am kinda leaning toward a Penman, no offense to any other maker. Adventurebilt or Deluxe would be a second choice, but I know their wait times are closer to a year. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

The only people who can truly answer this questions are the ha makers themselves. My current estimated is 6 months. Steve and Marc you will have to check. regardless of what web sites stamens always good to double check.

Actually, Steve at Adventurebilt's wait times are what he states on his website (6 weeks for a Beaver, and 4-8 weeks for a Rabbit hat)...If you pay the new price, you get his work done on the weekends, which means he hits the deadline he has written there while also pumping out the hats on backlist during his working week....(Mine took just over a month). Adventurebilt Deluxe is a touch longer, at 8-9 months currently? So yeah, you'd be waiting almost a year for one from Marc... John is also spot on in his estimates, and I think he has 6 months down as his current wait time? He was precise when he made mine..Almost to the day at 5 months. There are also many other hatters that make more than decent hats, although honestly (And I hope they don't take umbrage at this) the hats aren't quite as "spot on" as John's or Steve's or Marc's.... It really depends on what you want. If you want a hat made by the team that made the Indy IV hats, go AB and be prepared for a wait...If you like Penman's hats, chose John and have a wait (the time passes really quickly actually..), or chose a hatter who has a smaller wait list and get something close enough in a shorter time frame...What hat are you after? Garrison has made some great hats recently, and his wait times aren't so bad I believe? (Check with him for that though) garrisonhatters.com/ Also there's AdVintage hatters who make some decent hats too...I believe their turnaround isn't bad as well.. www.advintagefedora.com/ And lastly, I'd suggest if you want a good hat NOW, that you try HatsDirect in Aus...They are factory made Akubra Fed's, but they'll come so fast you'll barely have to time to blink, and the hat itself is more than decent for the price and for a factory made hat... www.hatsdirect.com/ There's a world of choices mate, and in time for may? Nearly all of those above can fill that order and give you hat to be proud of, so the REAL question is, WHAT DO YOU WANT? Regards..

Well I was going to get it for a graduation, and that will be held on May 19. When would it need to be ordered to get it around (preferably before that, but I know it may be on the edge of to late) to get it before then? Penman is my favorite, not to say they aren't all nice, But AB is more expensive, and I would be nice to have one made in the USA, just for vanity and pride mostly, but that is always nice, especially in this day and age where everything it seems is foriegn made.

You can still order a Penman and have it before you graduate (John... please correct me if I am wrong). The last I heard, his wait time was around 5 months. It could be more by now. But if you order now you can probably have it in time.
BTW- an AB made by Steve Delk IS made in the US, unless you were talking about another hat.
