Hello, I need a new jacket for my Indy gear. Now I'm not an expert on IJ jackets, but I saw this budget jacket on Wested.com for $78, and it seems pretty good. But there might be something wrong with it and if there is then please tell me. www.wested.com/cotton-drill-lightweight-raiders-71-p.asp

It says right up front what's wrong with it: The lining is made of... of... Satin! Steven

It's a BUDGET jacket. The lining to me is easy to look over. I'm not looking for SA, I was just wondering if the jacket was a good budget jacket. Anything else?

Ive seen one that had been waxed and it was quite hard to tell it from the leather version

They're made to the same pattern as the leather jackets....As DJD states above, with waxing they can look VERY close to the real thing...
For a cheap "Indy" jacket I'd agree that they're fairly cheap...You could try looking at Todds perhaps? But the Cotton Drill from Wested is an excellent choice for a cheap and accurate jacket..

Yeah...I just got into reading through the jacket forum on COW and read about Wested's crap about not listening about emails and screwing up orders, so now I'm discouraged again...
Does he still do that or has he shaped up and I can be 110% ok with placing an order and knowing that it will be made exactly how I want it (specs wise)? Because I do not want to be scammed especially after I read those posts and am generally uneasy now about ordering.

Pretty sure the cotton jackets aren't custom made anyways.

Yes, as Nick states clearly enough, the Cotton Drill aren't available in custom...You'd be ordering an off the rack size, and there should be very little to worry about at all with that. Peter (or Gemma) has always been good at replying to my emails with speed and clarity, and I haven't experienced any of the issues someone like Patterson has...However, that could just be my luck.
And in any event, the issues with needing to talk to Peter aren't yours, since ordering an off rack means they just ship it out to you. A lot of the stuff said over on COW was personal..Which doesn't mean it's right or wrong, but it does mean it's coming from a certain viewpoint....Remember that....Wested is decent for what you want in this regards...Where they may let you down is in something custom built, or with certain specs that you ask for.....But that's nothing to do with this, so you're all good.
Regards.

Because I do not want to be scammed especially after I read those posts and am generally uneasy now about ordering. Wested may not have the best track record in getting specific order details right or in communicating with the customer. However, they have never been known to intentionally "scam" anyone for anything. I believe most of their problems to be a result of a lack of general business organization. Trying to sort out twenty or more specific choices on a custom jacket order doesn't help much. Ken

OK. I sent an email asking what the shipping cost was to Coway and she said it was $40. So the jacket price (which seems to have went up) is $78.16 plus $40 shipping is 118.16. Not bad at all I must say.

I'd also recommend that you NOT take everything written in the jacket section of COW as gospel. Like Ben said, there are a few vocal members there that have a personal beef with Wested.

One ofthe fastest delivered OTR jackets I ever received was from Wested. It's a good company.

I happen to agree....I've never had a bad order from them....Even the off the rack jacket is nice (not especially SA, I can see why that would annoy some..But still...), the customs take about a week or two plus shipping to turn around, and Gemma has always replied swiftly to my emails...
I have no idea where the bad reports come from, although I'm sure they're true...
I think recently, Wested has made a concerted effort to get things "right" at the Barn, and it's meant very decent clothes coming from there....
The last order I had was a Wolverine X-0 jacket, and it arrived in Japan three weeks after my order (custom), and fit perfectly....I happen to really think Wested are doing great..
So......Different strokes for different folks..

So......Different strokes for different folks.. What may be right for one might not be right for some. Sorry... back on topic. I really like Wested. I considered a cotton jacket a long time ago. I ended up saving a little more and getting the Special OTR Lambskin Raiders jacket. It's still the best jacket I own. I'd still be curious about the cotton jacket, though. -Josh
