Anybody ever see or hear of a pigskin jacket ? I've heard that it is the second toughest leather out there , next to kangaroo hide . Don't they use it for making footballs ? Trying to persuade G&B to make me a horsehide expedition , with a minimum amount of success . Sent the Nowak folks a request , but so far no reply . Oh , what is a poor body to do ? Gotta say , I've never seen a more beautiful Indy jacket than the Nowak CS , but I guess it is all pretty subjective . Sheesh .

Never heard of a pigskin jacket- and I doubt they would have sections of leather that are big enough for the panels. For what I have heard, a G&B goatskin jacket is tough as nails.

I have seen a few examples of pigskin leather, it can be finished to look like cow or even lamb but it was Chinese made and looked cheap. It's considered a lower quality leather, though I suspect that may be partly from some groups having religious opposition to wearing it. I've also seen it sueded and it had some fairly large pores visible, those plasticky jackets in the mall with 'real leather' labels but won't tell you the species are prime suspects IMO.
What a waste! Make crackling out of it!

Since joining this forum not long ago , I've been reading non stop , and although I am just beginning to scratch the surface , my knowledge of things 'Indiana Jones' , has grown exponentially . There are a lot of critiques on every aspect of this wonderful obsession , from garment quality to customer service , and there seems to be a common feeling that among the various vendors , Gibson & Barnes stands out as a company that excels in every category . At this time , they do not make their Expedition jacket in horsehide , which , goodness knows , I've been trying to persuade them to do , but I was wondering if there is anyone out there who's had experience with the G&B horsehide A-2 . Is the leather fairly soft and supple , or is it stiff and unruly , or somewhere in between ? In the photos they look pretty beautiful . Looks like I may have to order one of their goatskin jackets , but never having owned a goatskin jacket before , I can only judge by what I've learned here . Kind of feel like I'm somewhere between the dog and the fire hydrant .

Well here is a question for you- what will you be doing while wearing this jacket? It's obvious you want it to be tough. But exactly what kind of activities will you be doing? Goatskin is a tough leather- and I have heard nothing but great things about G&B's goatskin.

The vast majority of my activities of the rough and tumble , throwing hands around , Indiana Jones kind are , I think , pretty much behind me . I'm not a very big guy [155 pounds soaking wet , size 42R] , but somehow I like the feel of a heavy jacket on my back . There are a few cowhide jackets hanging in my closet that I really like a lot . They have a good heft to them which appeals to me . Also , there is the warmth factor . Like you jnicktem , I live in a place where the winters can be pretty severe , so I'd like the jacket to be warm , and big enough to be able to wear a sweater under when I need to . Years ago , I was privileged to own a beautiful horsehide A-2 made by Willis & Geiger , which I wore all of three months before it was stolen , but I never forgot it , and thought maybe someday it would be replaced . There you have it , the random musings of an old Bon Vivant .

Nah..You'd be much better off with paying a little more for a Todds Costumes version (accurate and cheap) than buying that...It looks off by miles and not well made..

I already bought it i feel i will regret it, as i doubt its even leather. If i like the look of this one i bought i might go for the todd one at a later date though.

Well....I'm interested to see what they actually send you....I'm sceptical..The jacket looked off in the photos, and you have to guess that they choose the "best" photo they had..Which means I think the jacket itself might be rather far from the "mark"...But, I'd like to see what they end up sending...
When it arrives please do post photos?
Todds would be the best you can get at the price....Nothing beats it.

The feedback this company gets is a bit worrying, but its a leap of faith on my part, just like Indy in Last crusade. They claim it retails at £600 which is a lie from the outset. But i seem to find it hard to load pics on my pc for some reason but will do if i ever can.

Honestly...I've found it best to stay well away from companies that make claims like that while showing a product that is, at best, worth 1/6th of the price they claim...Online shopping needs to be checked, not a "leap of faith"..There are several companies out there who are cheap, and more than reliable...And they won't screw you over, or send you something that looks pathetic...
If you can post photos, I'd be interested to see what they send out...
And honestly, I'd suggest a rethink of your policy about online shopping...You'll only waste money doing things like that...I reckon...Be careful eh?

This company also claims their jacket is the most authentic around which having just listened to you, know it isnt.
But me being not an expert and connosier, i will quite likely like what i recieve as i have nothing to compare it to.. If i had the todds one in front of me i then might be able to tell how much better a todd or wested one is than this ebay one.
But as long as the ebay one is quite warm and durable i think i will be relatively happy as my eye isnt so keen and im no expert on these things.

Well...As long as you're happy..That's all that matters when you spend your money...
And yeah, they're not the "most authentic" at all...Nor is their jacket worth 600 quid...
But that's besides the point....It's what you make of the jacket you get that counts...All I can do is try and steer you to the choices I'd go with..(Since I've gone with them and liked the results..)
All the best..And please do share the photos with us?

Upload them to an image hosting site like Photobucket. Then you can use the [/img] code to post it here. Steven

Cool, your good arent you and i couldnt do it. I will show the back as well which dont look as good as the front, as soon as i can. I will probably do it wrong so you can rectify me again. Thanks in advance I think the problem is you're linking to the image page, not the image link. Right click on the image (the mouse button that brings up the scrolling menu) and click on "View Image." Then copy the link in the address bar and put it between the [/img] tags. Steven

No, youve been enough help already and as clear as you should be, its all down to me and its my problem. Thanks anyway. I just need a bit of time to do it by experimenting really, but not staying at it long enough. But i continue trying when i can. I got there in the end, just by sticking at it. Easier than i built it up to be. I promised to deliver so i had to.
