Hey Mikie, Thats not that bad, especially for never shaping a hat. You're right, its not perfect, but its definitely something you can wear until you save up and get something more to your liking.
And anyways, it looks like Indy's hat after a good adventure. Now go start one and save the world from uncertain death..

AND gives me the itch to really try a hat from scratch. Its quite the art and one I would like to learn. This lil hat will serve me just fine for now. And I get called Indy now, so thats a plus..LOL..Thanks again...

Just thought I would start off the replies since having a lot of views and no replies.. Now off for my adventure today.. LOL ;D It actually is not too bad for your first attempt. I had to tighten the pinch on my Todd's Downtowner when I first got it and I used steam. Not sure if it is the preferred method, but several folks on here have used steam.

Yea, I used steam as well..Boiled a little pot of water and held it over it...shaping as I went..Even used a soup ladle to help form it from the inside to give me something to press against..lol...then later on I used some spray starch on it and a blow dryer.. Again, its just to tide me over for now..THanks..

I actually did a little more on it tonight..got rid of those pesky thumb dents up by the crease and it looks way better...still have white water makes on it from the other days "messing" but gonna get rid of them somehow..even if I have to throw some watered down linen paint on there in a few light watery layers..I just love doing this stuff..hehehe...

Looks good, but since you are playing around with it, here are some screen captures I brightend up a bit so you could see them better. You may want to try and change the top crease and that could improve the look a little. That may not be the look are going for on this particular hat, so that is just a suggestion, not a criticism. John Penman has a great video on getting a Raiders bash if you have not seen it, check it out

I tried..and of course im no pro..BUT It didnt feel or look like I had enough material. Like I made the bash and it seemed like it was too low to my head or something..BUT im sure I just didnt know what the heck I was doing. lol.. Its pretty close to what im wanting and a LOT closer than what it was new..Im going to buy a "real indy hat" with in the year so my itch will be scratched..

I'd bring the crown back to its original height and just tighten up the front pinch. It looks completely out of proportion the way it is now.
This is not really because of anything you have done. There just isn't enough crown - both material and block shape - to do what you attempted.

I see what you are saying for sure..BUT there is no way im putting it back the way it was..lol..it really dont look that bad. Ive asked my wife and kids and even some other people we've hung out with and they say it looks pretty good.. like I said im gonna get a real Indy hat within the year so its all good..
