Okay, living next to their factory and not being able to buy any is a real bummer. Maybe you just haven't met the right factory employee yet? ::cough:: I'm not, uh......not saying......that any type of persuasive deals should be attempted, of course. Hmmmm...you've given me an idea Mr. Tone...perhaps I shall have to become better acquainted with the fine employees of the Alden Factory! And if I can't make any progress there, they'll have to "say hello to my little friend" Trust me, when the cameras aren't rolling, the doughboy can be a real mean SOB...whatever you do, DON'T poke him in the stomach!!! Okay, okay...someone has too much time on their hands... Maybe I should just see if Alden has a factory store??? That might be easier...whenever I get the doughboy involved, things tend to get, ah...messy. -GCR

;D ;D ;D Take your whip and the angry little Pillsbury Doughboy along on your factory tour . I'm sure you can "talk" some sense into them and their inflated pricing. Oh yeah.... contrary to the current trends, do not take a virtual CGI whip with you. They don't hurt at all and nobody is frightened of a guy standing in front of a rolling blue screen. Ken

Well, it's certainly worth a try. Unless the factory is completely exploitive (which wouldn't surprise me) they might offer some kind of percs to their employees. Say they get an employee discount on Aldens. Imagine finding a nice employee to pick up a pair for you at their cost. With any luck, it's less than wholesale and you might be able to get a pair of Aldens for $100.00. Okay that's best case scenario, but one never knows. Very interested to hear the accounts of this whole affair under your top secret plans of infiltration: GCR: "Operation Squeaky Heels." ____________________________________________________ Incidentally, there are still more standard sizes available for the Carolina from this Ebay seller. Mola Ram had informed me of their availability a couple months ago and I didn't get to it by the end of the auction. They went back on sale for $54.99. I didn't buy them. I just got a pair for $25.00. It seems the pattern for this seller is to list them at $25.99 or offer a buy it now price, but the prices on the sizes goes into rotation. That is, a pair of 10.5 Ds being listed only at a buy it now price may likely turn up in another round of auctions at $25.99 again. You guys who are interested in these, please be sure to "search" the vendor's site and look for your size. They have many more standard sizes listed. 10 D, 10.5 D, 11 D, 12D, etc. It shouldn't be too hard to grab a pair of these (if so inclined) for $25.00.

Hey, and the starting bid is even lower. Jump on these, guys. I may even grab a second pair. One for work, one for casual dress. 'Blues

Well, that's it. Forget my Alden infiltration plan, the doughboy can go back to doin' commercials. ;D I'm gonna grab me a pair of these. I'll risk the size 12, as I think I'm a bit closer to the 12 - 12.5 size range than I am to the 13. Hopefully they fit. -GCR

Well, I managed to score me a pair of the Huskers! Woo-hoo!!! No more barefoot adventuring for me! ;D I bid on one pair at $19.99, and I was the only bidder the whole way through. $20 bucks for one of the best pairs close-enough Indy boots out there, can't beat that! Pics will follow as soon as they arrive...I'll spare everyone the pic of my shoeless foot in the meantime... ;D (I still get a chuckle outta that one, 'Blues!!! ;D) Also, I just wanted to thank Ken for posting the link to these, as that really is a heck of a deal. Thanks ken!!! -GCR

Congrats GCR, I think you'll love 'em. Wearing mine now. the steel toe controversy is really a moot point with these. I've never worn a pair of steel toes that felt this comfortable. These are more like light duty boots, maybe for people who have to wear steel toe for regulation, but don't need a really heavy duty boot. 'Blues

Turns out they were both too tight. So I've got to go with a 13. If they don't fit right can you send them back?

Thanks guys!!! Man, I hope they fit. I tried on a pair of 12 and 12 1/2's when I was shopping for boots a while back because I thought my feet might be the same as yours. Turns out they were both too tight. So I've got to go with a 13. If they don't fit right can you send them back? They should fit okay, if what everone says about them is true, then the fit of these boots is pretty normal (in other words they don't run too big or too small). My normal size is right around 12 - 12.5, and my foot isn't very wide, so 12 D should fit me okay. Even if they are a bit snug, I'll be okay with it...because of how weird my feet are and how I have to go for a different size depending on what brand of shoes I wear, I'm used to getting blisters now and then. ;D If they DON'T fit, then no, I can't return them. All sales are final with the Shoes4auction folks (unless the items are damaged or something). So that's an obvious downside, but considering I only paid $20 bucks for them (well, it was more like $32 bucks with the outrageous shipping charges ) I'm fairly certain if they don't fit me I could easily recoup my money by selling them either here or at the OGF. And if that fails, I could always put 'em up on ebay... Oh, and guess what? My phone rang a few minutes ago, and despite the fact that I have a phone right here next to me on my desk, I always check the caller ID before I answer and the replica vintage phone doesn't have that feature (obviously), but the cordless phone in the bedroom does. In my race to get the phone before the machine picked up, my left foot went smack into the doorframe of the bedroom full force, and now I think I may have broken a toe...guess I could have used those steel-toes a bit sooner... ;D -GCR

;D...OUCH! Oh, Man.......what a horrible turn of events that would be if you did break your toe. Well, I do not know if it's broken or not, but even if it is, it's not life threatening, so I think I'll skip the hospital (and it's not even the big toe, so it's not like it's all that important ;D)...granted, it still hurts like hell, but I'll get over it. At least it provided me with a chuckle thanks to the irony of it all. -GCR

Broken toes suck! I broke two of mine last year, coming back to bed in the middle of the night. I bashed them into the metal bed leg and it brought me to my kness in pain. Nothing felt out of place, so I didn't go to the doctor or anything. It took several months before they felt like they were healed too. Which little piggy was it, BTW? Ken

It was the second one in...right next to the big toe on the left foot...luckily it wasn't the big one (that one got away unscathed), because my girlfriend's cousin broke his big toe once and he ended up in a cast up to his knee... I'm all set with that... - GCR

Well, I think I'm going to retract my the earlier statement I made about people wearing the gear not needing a steel toe boot. It's obvious some of us would find them very handy. It's just to bad shipping wasn't "lightening fast" in your case. ;D

So it was the little piggy that went to market then? See, he should have stayed home with his big brother. What the heck is wrong with me? Glad to hear it wasn't the big toe, because like you said, that can be a tough one to recover from. It's amazing how a little thing like a toe can change your life a great deal when it's broken. This might be a good opportunity to walk with a cane and milk the injury for some sympathy though. Ken

Because resting right here next to me on the desk is a CANE! ;D Even with the broken toe, I'm one step ahead of you there, Ken! ;D It's actually my girlfriend's cane, since she had surgery to her foot a few weeks ago (long story), but she's been walking fine without it for the last week and a half, so now it's my turn. ;D If only I had bought some Huskers a couple weeks ago!!! ;D -GCR

Anyone who's got a pair of Huskers themself can appreciate a friendly heads up for others looking to piece their gear together at reasonable prices. I've always speculated on those plain toe, too. The Huskers have a bit more Indyness in 'em but those plain toe would do the job just as well, IMO. Thanks for being a good sport with the notice on those Huskers, Wolf.

Right size, just to wide. I like those other boots too. Those wouldn't be a bad alternative and I like the color.

Thanks for the heads up! I picked up a second pair of the 364's from Kaplan, after he bought his Magnolis. But these are styled slightly different. They have a different sole, with grips on them. Also, I may pick up a pair of those new one, they are really nice. I love the color and overall look. Thanks, 'Blues
