Can any seasoned Dr Jone's tell me anything about this WWII shoulder bag? I bought this item from Ebay recently and would like like to know if it is a acceptable shoulder bag for any of the Indy films??? Idol Raider Attachments:

ok well It's not completely screen accurate because the buttons are a little off because they aren't really buttons they just go through the flap which isn't really bad, it doesn't look like the one from Raider because that one had a greenish color to it (though thats most noticeable in the streets of Cairo. Its not as noticeable in this exact pic but in other scenes you can see the color better so the bag could maybe be The last Crusade or Crystal skull, Feel free to ask more questions and welcome to the Indy lounge! -Buck

Indy used the same bag in all of them: A British Mk VII Gas Mask Bag. The only difference between the films is the strap. Although, if you bought a Mk VI, then that's specific for Temple of Doom.
Go to Wade Egan for the strap, or perhaps you could get a Todd's strap. Todd's is great for Raiders, but Wade Egan can do any film, and he even allows you to choose if you want your Raiders Strap to have grooves or not.
I hope this is enough info. ;D

No problem and once again welcome! Feel free to ask any questions from what Indiana Jones's middle name is (which Walton) to what type of fedora he wears in the films. -Buck

As well as Adventurebilt. The bag looks pretty good. Just get a leather strap and you'll be set. I have gear from both of them and they are great. Wade Egan makes excellent leather gear. Great quality leather and craftsmanship. Todd makes nice Raiders bag straps too. They look accurate to what I see on film.

Nice research, Si! Now the question is... Is it worth it to upgrade to a Mk VII, real or replica? Questions, questions... Steven

No probs - I like to help out where possible To answer your question - it'd depend entirely on the original purchaser! I don't own any kind of original MkVII, be it British or Indian, but I'm entirely happy with my "replica" (a Sahara Indiana shoulder bag). If "Idol Raider" wants authenticity, then they'd be best off getting a MkVII, but if they just want the look, they're close enough with their purchase.

Great! I'm going to settle for a replica, because it's cheaper and the strap will be easier to install. Steven

Nice! To be honest, I think you're better off with a replica, as you can abuse it without worrying that you might destroy a piece of real history But that might just be the archaeologist in me! It's like with another hobby of mine, military reenactment, when I purchased some very sought after trouers. I only wear them out and about because they were already damaged, and can handle the beating. But if I thought for a second they were going to fall to bits, I'd lock them up and never wear them

Idol Raider - if you're after a nice leather strap for that Indy bag, there's actually somewhere here in the UK you can get one - www.lost-ark.net/index_red.htmlI've just ordered one of their 72" Dark Tan Edge Creased straps, which cost around £27 delivered, and will be more than happy to let you know what it's like when it arrives Having emailed Steve (one of the guys that runs the site) about their stated "28 days delivery" policy, he said that they do that just to make sure they're covered when busy or have to make up stock. Having contacted them directly, he told me that at the moment they have a stock of both the plain and edge creased straps, so can ship them out within 3-5 days of payment clearing

I think the main things you'll notice is the flap has square corners, where Indy's has 45° corners. This also has drings at the front like a Mk VI, it doesn't seem to have the disk at the side and also does not have the same style vents on the bottom. This is a MkVii.

So, Idol Raider, basically what KT is saying is that your bag is just a close-enough. But we're NOT trying to go all Club Obi Wan on you. If you like your current bag, then so be it. Steven

Well it looks like it could be ether a Canadian?India?.or Pakistan? or some other Commonwealth country copy of the MKVII used in WWII and the 50's seeing that it does not have snaps it might be from India?
