So which item of gear has suffered most from the Indygear Price Dilation Effect. Can you tell me what is the lowest price you've paid for a piece of gear and when and compare it witht he current price. Let's see who has really hiked up those prices over the years.

Good topic, KT. I've only been gathering gear for a bit over a year, so it's all been based on what I consider fair market value from the start.
Nothing's hiked much over the last year, but there are also particular items I don't have because of their current prices.

I think the record-holder here is the MK VII bag.
Before it became widely known that it was used in the IJ movies, you could find unissued bags at around £ 2 in military surplus stores - now they go for around £ 20-40 on e-Bay.

jeep, it seems like its dropped in popularity in the past year. MK VII's were going for around 110$ all over the place. I actually made quite a bit buying and reselling them on ebay, thats actually how I got the money for my aldens. Its gone down to around the 40-60$ USD mark, but that is still really high.

Yes, i hope the Endicott find has drawn the price back down to sensible levels.

Great topic! Glad to see we can discuss something like this without fear of "El Locko."
From what I hear some of the biggest price hikes have been seen in the Aldens and David Morgan whips. Somebody told me they spent $495 on a David Morgan whip and $195 on a pair of Aldens, only a few short years ago. Today, those same items go for $770 and $290, respectively. For the pair, that's an increase of $370 in roughly five years. Supply and demand...pretty neat, huh.

I'd probably save up and pay $195 for Aldens the current price, well that needs some sort of a windfall. But WOW on the price of the Morgan.

A COW member just had a slightly modded jacket made (gussets and small pockets,) and paid £147, even with the vagarities of the exchange rate taken into account, it looks like they forgot to charge for the mods. For highly modded jackets he's charging £165+ but I've only heard of one occurrence of that and it was an uber mod. (IndyDoc I think?).

I have to agree with SkyChief,..Aldens and Morgans skyrocketed in price. Least Alden could have done was offer them in brown, for Petes sake. 'Blue

I haven't been in the "gear collecting" hobby for very long so it's hard for me at least to notice any price hikes or decreases.
I guess the "price" really doesn't matter as long as you've got the funds and are after an original item.

Least Alden could have done was offer them in brown, for Petes sake. 'Blue I'm with ya, brother. Alden seems to have zero interest in bettering their boots, and as fans, we're given the impression that, "Oh Alden is such a big company, the revenue they get from Indy fans is so microscopic that they wouldn't notice if they lost our business." Well bull. Check out Alden's main webpage. They have four different pieces of footwear shown at the top of the intro page, one of which is the '405 Indy Boot.' We're supposed to believe that they just "happened" to place that boot on the main page? They're making plenty off of us, and they're ignoring us at the same time. That's not too far off from what David Morgan has done with regards to the length of his whip handles being far shorter than the movie whips', and his refusing to make any at the accurate length.

NH shirt has gone from £55 > £65. That's US$105 > US$124.
UK interest rates went up on thursday, as a result the pound jumped 2¢ against the dollar it's now £1 = $1.91, markets are expecting it to get to $2 by the end of the year. I remember when the £ dropped to 1:1 with the dollar!

I haven't really paid that much attention to price dilation on certain pieces of gear, mainly since I was stuck on buying one hat after another. And "of course" these became more and more expensive each time, as there was a time where I actually believed in the hype that I was told...

Marc

Just to clarify one thing. The Aldens are brown now. The horrid pumpkin orange of several years ago is gone. When i got my boots over a year ago they were a nice brown with a hint of red in it. Whip prices are very high. I understand that they take a lot of skill to make, but I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on something I have no use for. For that kind of money I could have another Mountian Gun! ;D

For that kind of money I could have another Mountian Gun! ;D You know what I thought that too, I ended up getting an IOAB in a trade and it's great fun and rewarding to make some noise and scare the neighbours with! At $100 the IOAB is great value.

I paid about $160 Aussie bucks for my first MK VII on ebay four years ago. I bought another one two months ago for 20 pounds (shipped) ...also, the first one was in very used condition, this latest one was unissued and mint. Booyah!!!
