The yellow was driving me crazy so I used a little pearl gray RIT dye to tone it down. The only problem was the buttons didn't match. So I found some light gray buttons at the craft store that were pretty close. I think this looks much more SA.

Looks like a shirt somebody bought from a famous outfitter... Only it rates a 4 on the accuracy scale in my signature.

Thanks! I got the shirt used on ebay or $20 so I figured it was worth the gamble. Now all I need is a good pair of pants. I have a pair of wested trousers, but the fit is freakin' weird. I have tons of space in the waiste and thighs, but below the knee is real tight. It's fine if I am standing, but as soon as I sit down the cuff tries to ride up a little but it can't. It looks like I am wearing spandex from the knee down!. I love the material and the color is pretty good too. If your pant leg doesn't have the right cut You pants wont look "Indy" no matter what material they are made of.

Did Wested ever fix their pants?

Note to self: NEVER BUY WESTED PANTS. Depending on your budget, you could go with pants from L.L. Bean, Magnoli, and even Todd's (eventually). This just in: Magnoli has added Cavalry Twill as an option for his Adventure Pants. The color of the new fabric is called Vintage Brown. For those who want Magnoli Pants in an authentic fabric, this is it. I have no idea whether it it's a limited time thing or he's gonna have this forever, so for those who are ready, order them now! You been listening to the hate brigade too much. Wested pants are pretty darn good. They have an issue where they are slightly too blowsy in the pleats and slightly too narrow in the ankle if you are tall.
I've taken a pair and placed then on top of a screen used pair, and they compare very favorably. They are the correct fabric and very close to the correct colour. They are also exceedingly favorably priced for the type of trousers they are. Other cavalry twill are a least double if not three times the price. In addition these are made in the UK with British material. Not Asia or Americas.
For comparison Mag's are $189!

You been listening to the hate brigade too much. AGAIN?!? This whole hobby is a sea of opinions and it's messing me up! I'll never know until I get my OWN Indy gear. Whatever I get, I will like it! Steven

Let me make myself clear.(Barry joke) The quality of the Wested trousers are superb. The pants just don't work for ME as Indy pants. I wear them on a weekly basis both for work and not. I joined Indylounge because I was in "that other forum" where a lot of people seemed to have forgotten that this is supposed to be fun. Hell, my first Indy gear was long before the internet and forums like this. It was a pleather jacket, old fedora, and a purse! Don't forget the whip ordered from the back of a Boys LIfe magazine for $3.99 . I love that stuff because some of it I made or modified myself and It was FUN! Make no mistake! (Barry joke) I'm not a member of Indylounge to rag on Wested or praise Coyle. I'm not here to mock the Akubra guys or promote Adventurebuilt fans. I'm here to have fun and share my ups and downs because..... Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum, What might be right for you, may not be right for some... Because it takes, Different Strokes to move the world. Yes it does. It takes, Different Strokes to move the world. ;D

Okay, that really clears things up, thanks, Yames. I really have to stop making such hasty assumptions. My whole family collides with each other because we make too many hasty assumptions. For example, my little sister sometimes thinks everybody's talking to her --whether it's a praise or a punishment-- when they're really talking to somebody else. We somehow always make the wrong assumptions. And assumptions are all I can make about Indy Gear, as I don't own any of the real stuff. So that gets me in trouble sometimes. So I'll just loosen up and laugh. ;D Steven

Gosh that's a great job. I personally bleached the shirt 9 times ( full bottle without any water each time, used the RIt color removal twice with 3 times the amount specified and the color barely got paler. I haven't seen pearl gray RIT in their choice of color on the web. I tried the combination of tan and kelly green to get some sort of lite grey they proposed and...the shirt came back to it's original color! It's driving me crazy. Shame the people who make those shirt don't seem to find any light grey material around because I love the look and feel of the shirt and only Todd's make them to my specs off the rack. Think I'll try grey paint next!

California Jones, I can even see a slight sheen on your Todds shirt after you dyed it, specifically your TOD shirt.

Sorry, I know this is a bit of a necro post but...
Hey indianayames, is there any way you could describe your process for dying the Todd's shirts for us?
"A little" pearle gray RIT... did you use the full pack(if the dry kind) or the full bottle(if the liquid kind) for the time on the directions? Or did you use less dye or a shorter time soaking or what?
Thanks, this would help me a lot on getting my shirts to a better color like yours.

I tried this on my Todds shirt which is one of the first generation shirts. I had no such luck like you did in taking the yellow out. I used RIT dry powder, just a half of package in a 5 gallon bucket with extermely hot water and one cup of salt, soaking for 1 hour. The shirt came out really gray and not liking what happened I threw it in the washing machine with some bleach and it's back to it's normal color. So I'm curious to know what trick you did that I didn't.
