Hey, there! I'm starting the first in a series of threads all about prop, costume, and vehicle replication from movies that aren't the Indy Saga. To start off, I'll give a list of details from the DeLorean Time Machine from Back to the Future and where to buy the parts to make it (or who to find to make it for you).
Details:
First and foremost, you can't have a DeLorean Time Machine if you don't have a DeLorean. The model used in BTTF was a DMC-12 (Duh, it was the only design ever produced!) from 1981, but the hood was from a 1982 DeLorean. The movie car had a grey interior and manual transmission. On the movie car, there were metal strips called Flux Bands, which have Flux Boxes on the end. I'm guessing the purpose for these bands and boxes is so that the entire car will go back in time in one piece. These Flux Bands go around the front bumper and the back of the car. On top of the back one is a device called the Wormhole Emmitter. Obviously, this is for making a wormhole to another time.
On the rear deck, there's a ton of junk. They're split up into four parts, the Driver's Side Pontoon, the Passenger's Side Pontoon, the Rear Exterior Bulkhead (often skipped in replicas, as it requires removing the back window), and the Engine Deck. The Driver's Side Pontoon consists of three red capacitors, three "hockey pucks" that had a run-in with the pizza cutter, and a grill plate. The Passenger's Side Pontoon consists of three olive green missle-shaped tubes and two blue capacitors that are each connected to two curly orange wires. The Rear Exterior Bulkhead consists of a large airplane tube, a grey tube coiled in an reddish-orange wire, and a fire extinguisher. The rear deck consists of two huge black aluminum vents, oil separator, Lightning Rod slot, other various parts, and a nuclear reactor (your choice of Plutonium Reactor or Mr. Fusion Reactor).
Now for the interior! Let's start with the famous Flux Capacitor! Now, some people see the capacitor as having a "Battleship Grey" enclosure, other people think it looks better in a much lighter grey. I think that the battleship grey looks SA, but when most people make a Flux Capacitor in Battleship Grey, they make the pipes that are connected to it a bright silver, which make the capacitor look weirder. As you can see from this Screencap, the pipes look more of a smoked metal color.

The time circuit display was made from aluminum, three letter displays, and ten number displays.
The TFC Drive (the switch that Doc pulled when he said "First, you turn the Time Circuits on.") was compiled of various parts.
For more info on the DeLorean Time Machine's parts, go to BTTFParts.com.
Who:
If you want someone to do the conversion for you, then there's only one man that can help you (screen flashes to Doc Brown hanging from the clocktower, plugging the first plug in, sliding down the cable, and plugging the last plug in right before the first DeLorean drives through the cable and goes back to 1985). Wait, what was that? Oh, right, um cancel that, it seems that the Doc is a little busy getting the carbon readings of the atmosphere from past dates. Oh, well, there's always VideoBob, the owner of the Texas TV Cars and BTTF Stuff websites, and BF Coulombe, maker of BTTF and Lost in Space TV props. The DeLorean Time Machine is one of their specialities. They do full-on conversions for these DeLoreans. You can either supply your own DeLorean to either or have VideoBob find one especially for the conversion. With both conversions, the interior is fully detailed and the time circuits actually work: you can actually program the time circuits with a date, and then press the "Reset" button (which was actually on the TFC Drive) to simulate 88mph and the previous destination time becomes the present time, the previous present time becomes the last time, and the previous last time becomes your destination. If you have your own DeLorean and want a DeLorean with a Plutonium Reactor, just go with BF Coulombe's conversion. If you want an interactive conversion, go with BTTF Stuff.
What:
IF you want to make your own props, there are tutorials on BTTFParts.com (Link Above).
Where:
There are many places to get BTTF DeLorean Props. For example, BF Coulombe makes the most SA Flux Capacitor that I've ever seen. BTTF Hardware makes interactive Time Circuits that can be connected with each other to achieve the working Time Machine feel.
So, That's all, folks. Stay tuned for Part 2: Herbie the Love Bug.
