I haven't done much research on this, but I've watched both trailers and it looks pretty amazing! I still haven't seen the original!! Hoping to change that by the weekend.

Where are the cool hockey helmets? I thought it was neat my first hockey helmet was the same helmet as the ones used in the original Tron.
Looks like it is going to be pretty good though!

I just watched the original last night. It was really cool. Great concept, great effects for the time, not so engaging a story. The trailers for this sequel looks to have it beat. I can't wait to watch this in 3D IMAX!

Okay, that wasn't exactly a spoiler.
Go see it in 3D. You won't regret it.

I saw this with my brother the other week, in 3D, and it was.... AAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMEEEE!!! Don't get me wrong, the storyline could've been a bit more fleshed out/deeper, but overall it was a fantastic film, and definitely worth seeing in a decent cinema (i.e. 3D glasses, comfortable seats, etc). Daft Punk did an amazing job on the soundtrack, and they've pitched the music at just the right volume, and at just the right times in the movie. In fact, at certain points it seemed like we were there to listen to Daft Punk play with some unbelievably fantastic light show Definitely one for the Tron fans out there, and even just general sci-fi fans. One thing I will say though (and it says this before the film starts) - it's *not* all in 3-D. Some shots are in 2D, and it was filmed like that. I think this was so that it made the 3D shots stand out more, and it really worked!

Yes I've listened to some of the soundtrack and it's great. Daft Punk did a good job.

How could they not?! J/k Actually I like it for more than the fact that they chose Daft Punk to do it - they actually took the time to look into music from the era of the original Tron film, and music from old video games. This becomes apparent when you listen to the soundtrack, as there's one track that sounds like it's come straight from some old Namco fighting game Needless to say, the film will be in my hands as soon as humanly possible... or should I say as soon as I can get it from a shop!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen TRON LEGACY twice. First in 2D and the second time in 3D. I have to say that I was pretty dissapointed. There seemed to be an over abundance of plots and an underabundace in explanations. It was very vague. Jeff Bridges playing "The Dude" from Big Lebowski and TRON's 3 minute appearance and he's a bad guy. I felt the director (his first film by the way) bit off more than he could chew. The 3D was cool. If you don't see it in 3D its kind of a waste. It doesnt do TRON justice Just one man's opionion. If you liked it im happy for you

There seemed to be an over abundance of plots and an underabundace in explanations. It was very vague. Really? Did you see the original, and undertand it? Because if you did, then I don't see how this could be overly abundant with plot or underabundant in explanations. Just MHO, but it seemed to be pretty easy to follow, in fact too much so for me - it just didn't feel like it lived up to the "epic movie" status I was willing to award it Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome movie which I'd watch again and again, but it just seemed like they spent a bit too much time on the audio/visual aspect, and not enough on the storyling/character development. But as I say, just IMHO, and everyone should definitely see it

Well, I haven't seen TRON Legacy, yet, but I think that the award for overabundant plots and underabundant explanations would go to the Lost in Space Movie. There's so much going on, but somehow, it just doesn't tie in to the big picture. The only reason I would buy it again on Blu-Ray would be so I can see the visual effects and that BEAUTIFUL Robot design much more clearly. Steven

What I mean is we are given the sub plot of the isopes and no explanation of how they arrived (just suddenly appeared out of nowhere is not good enough) or why they are important.... Why K. Flynn will die if he merely "deletes" Clu..... TRON's turn to the darkside was never explained..... why he ended up crashing clu's jet and turing good was never explained either.... alot of it seemed way too convenient for me, things kept happening and they wanted to stop the movie every five min with un needed exposition that didnt explain anything. . . why is jeff bridges' so wacked out? and... the kicker.... for me..... this grid is not connected to a server (internet) so ... HOW COULD CLU SEND A PAGE???
let me rephrase what i said about an over ubandance in plot... it had way to many things going on and they should have stepped back and made it a good old fashioned rescue the prisoner story. but that got over complicated with way too many things mentioned above.
I did see the origional. and loved it. it was very cool the idea of getting sucked into a computer grid with an MCP that wants to absorb the pentagon so that it can rule. Thats awesome. and they explain how it could! very good movie. LEGACY had a good start - rescue the father... but unfortunately that gets over complicated with mumbo jumbo and metrosexual programs that give little to the story. MHO
By the way Stargate welcome to the lounge ( a little belated ). I love stargate and agree, i was overly willing to award legacy Epic status

I must just have an overactive imagination then, cos those issues seemed to resolve thereselves for me Perhaps it just takes a different perspective towards the storyline to see it? And thanks for the (belated) welcome, it's much appreciated

The whole point of the Iso's was that they came from nowhere. That was the miracle.
Tron never "turned" to the dark side. He was reformatted or whatever it was called.
I really enjoyed the movie. I know it wasn't real deep, but I didn't find the original that deep either. They are both just really fun sci-fi adventures. I don't expect it to win best picture of the year, but it was a ton of fun in my book.

One thing that has been mentioned, and that we picked up on when watching it, where are the cool helmets?! Granted, this is a *new* grid and all, but still it would've been cool to see some kind of new headgear, and instead where left with just Rinzler and the other "Black Guard" dudes in biker helmets That was kind of disappointing.

I'm truly glad you all liked it. Having different opinions is what makes the world go round.
Josh- what was the purpose of the Isos?
|
|
|
Post by Mr. Fusion on Jan 4, 2011 20:54:12 GMT -5
The Isos were "programs" that were comprised of something that resembled DNA. They were supposed to be the answer to all disease on Earth. I'm not 100% sure how that would work.
I really need to see the movie again. Not only because of the stuff I either missed or have forgotten, but because I freaking loved it!
