Has anyone heard they are planning on making a prequel to the original Alien film? Ridley Scott has signed on as producer. There are rumors that it will feature the Space Jockeys. Space Jockey There's only a little official info. www.imdb.com/title/tt1446714/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_prequel#Future_filmsI cannot wait to see how this will unfold. I am a huge Alien fan. I've been waiting for a (good) new Alien movie for a long time. -Josh

It would be cool to see a new good one. Though my favorite was Aliens, the second one for those who don't know. (Oh and yes I am to young to legally see the movies but lucky for me that my dad watches those movies with me, I also liked Predator.)

i always thought the graphic novels from the 90's would make good movies, and the original AVP novel was better than the actual movie
at least these graphics kept all the colonial marines stuff in place, with pulse rifles and drop ships and power loaders etc, alien ressurection changed all of that forever

I saw it last night at midnight. It was pretty good. I was a little disappointed, but then again I had really high expectations.
Ridley Scott did a pretty good job of linking it to the original 1979 Alien film. And we are FINALLY told what the Space Jockeys are! I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but I'll probably just wait for the DVD/Blu-Ray release.
I recommend going to see it if you're a fan of the Alien movies or just love a good old fashioned Sci-Fi/Horror movie.

Saw it last night don't know if its just me getting older but I felt confused a Little lost at time and a Little Star Wars Dej Vue with the technology difference from Alien and Aliens then this movie all in all a OK Sci-Fi film not what I expected LOL my Nuke The Fridge moment was the Space Jockey drinking and dying by the waterfall? Hollywood strikes aging rat poison in the recipe

I still like Aliens even though its a very different movie (80s action vs 70s horror) and Alien 3... but Prometheus feels like one of the most, I don't know how to say it, "adult" sequels to Alien so far. For example there's a surgery scene later in the movie that reminded me of the gruesomeness of the chestburster scene in the original. It just made me think, "Ridley's still got it". Gorgeous sets and eerie cinematography also make it easy to believe its the same director as Alien and Blade Runner... and like those movies, it leaves some unanswered questions, but the ones it does answer are pretty big. Liked the cast, especially the actors who played Shaw and David, though one complaint I might have is that the casting might have been a little too reminiscent of the earlier movies, maybe making things a bit predictable. So... no nuked fridges for me really. The only scene I can think of at the moment that might have gone over the top for me was the "rolling" escape scene at the end... not too bad though. Anyway... heard some mixed reviews hear and there, even some negative ones from people I usually agree with... but still, its got to be one of my favorite movies in, well... quite awhile. Also... didn't really think I was big fan of 3D, but I did think 3D looked much better vs 2D... maybe it was because of different theaters?

I thought it was excellent. I hope there will be more in the near future.

Eh, I wasn't really impressed. It wasn't bad by any means, but one of the things that annoys me about Damon Lindelof's (of Lost fame) writing is that it creates puzzle that it never answers. I'm fine with ambiguous storytelling, but in order for it to work, you can't have major gaps in logic. Either it works one way or another. For example, if a movie is about a character who isn't sure if their reality is true, or it's a dream. It's either one, not something else entirely. This film (while it was visually very impressive as are all Ridley Scott's films in my opinion) suffers from Phantom Menace syndrome in that there seem to be lots of half developed subplots that never get explained.

I'm with niagra-- this is an exceptionally fine film wrapped inside of a terrible film.
And like niagra, I have to put the picture's failures on Lindelof, who is a phenomenally inept screenwriter.
My problems with the film boil down to the stunning ineptitude of these so-called "scientists" that have impossibly inane discussions on the virtues of "faith" (for the record, there are none-- faith is poison and utterly anti-scientific). We're too believe that this species has perfected interstellar space travel, and yet they're adverse to science in favor of conjecture and superstition.
The film constantly mentions "big questions," as if those words alone elevate it to some higher intellectual echelon. It never bothers to ask such questions, though, instead appealing to undue legitimacy it feels it's earned by merely saying those vacuous words.

I don't think the faith and space travel are exclusive concepts. I also wouldn't call the space travel in this movie perfect. They still require cryogenics which seems to make people vomit. -Josh

I think the writing is pretty bland to be honest. The trailers looked really impressive and I think it suffered from it's own hype. People expected it to be the next Alien. While I enjoyed the first two Alien pictures, I'm by no means a die hard fan.
I don't know. The interview I saw with Scott and Lindelof, Lindelof made it sound like it was going to be so thought provoking that it would create really interesting discussion among audiences regarding faith, science, religion, and mankind's relation to all of these things. It didn't really do any of that. The more I talk about it with people, the less and less I really care for the movie. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy elements of the film, or that I was so disappointed that I felt I wasted my money or time, but some of these writer's have to stop believing all of the hype that develop for sub-par work.
It's the same reaction I had to Super 8. A modern tribute to Speilberg styled movies with talented child actors? Great! But man did it fail big time.... This is the reason I never bothered finishing Lost. They should have just made it a mini series, revealed that the characters had died in the crash and that they were all in limbo. Leaving it ambiguous enough to let people interpret what or where limbo was. Was it a place, or a mental state? Leave that part open ended and trust their audience to make up their own minds. That's ambiguity.
To me it's like creating a beautiful looking puzzle that doesn't quite fit together right and telling people that it's mind blowing and innovative when in reality it's nothing of the sort. Call me a cynic, but I know good writing when I read (hear/ see in the case of movies) it.

Thing is, as interesting as that article is, we can only go on what is presented in the movie itself. If the information isn't presented in the movie then a general audience member who wouldn't necessarily read about the movie isn't going to have this extra information. Which to me was one of the major flaws of the prequels in that much of the subplots and exposition was based on material not found in the final film, ie. novels, screenplays, expanded universe, etc.

Well it's all just entertainment. Going to see TED this weekend. I'm hoping to discover the meaning of life from it.
