Inspired by my chats with Bernardo about his visit to David Morgan, I decided to make a new whip. Bernardo told me several interesting things about how Mr. Mogan puts his whips together and I was keen to try these out. I decided, rather than try and make a raiders whip, to try and make the closest copy of a modern Morgan that I could, including cutting wide strands and ending with a heavy point. I think I came close - I chose a longer handle section, but even Mr, Morgan has been doing that again recently. Still, nobody makes a closer copy than Bernardo - and of course, now he's been taught by the master himself!! The other reason for making this whip, was I couldn't let Indy Breineder start getting ahead of me! Anyway, here it is - 8ft natural tan For comparison a new morgan My expanded whip collection

Pagey, Glad to see you are not completely out of the whip making. You are just too darn good to quit. Very Nice job Cheers, G-MANN

Thanks for the compliments, much appreciated. It was fun to make this whip and to try and do all the streps the same way Morgan does. Although the basic cnstruction of an Indy whip is pretty well know, each whipmaker has his own way of doing things - and Bernardo was kind enough to share much of the precious knowledge he gained working alongside Mr. Morgan. I hope to add one of Indy Breineder's snakewhips to my collection. I'm going to make him a bull and he'll make me a snake in return.

Gosh !! I didn't know you were a whip maker. Quite a proffessional one too. This must be hard and laborious work, requiring lots of patience !! Did you use to make them for selling or just as a hobby ?

It must be nice to sit down and say "Gee, I think I'll make a whip today" and end up with a perfect Morgan replica hours later.
Cheers, G-MANN

I am going to order a few hides from my new supplier who has just a handful of large heavy good quality skins. So... I could take on 2 8ft Indys alongside my personal projects, if anyone's interested.

Thanks. I'll only order the hides if someone wants me to make them a whip - otherwise I'll just make myself one. I'm keen to have a bit of a collection.

Using these heavy weight hides (which are the best quality I've come across), I can do a 8ft for $330. That includes a spare fall and crackers

Good to see you back in the saddle Nick! Did you order from the source I gave you? - At least I was really impressed with the samples I got. During the European summit this weekend, I had the opportunity to crack MANY different brands and I didn't like ONE of them except one that Indiana Tom brough (can't remember the maker) and my Pagey whip! - Got quite some compliments on it too So, yes, I could see myself ordering another Pagey in the future. Just to have one in 10' as well. Otherwise I'm done with that part of the gear and I just can't believe that it could be done with ONE SINGLE PIECE (thinking about the TONS of hats I went through, before I ended up making them myself). Regards, Marc (off to work on the spec. list for my new jacket

Hey Marc, glad you still like the whip- how are you getting on with your cracking? Did you pick up some tips at the summit?

Maybe I missed this. What type of hide is that whip and the other ones you were talking about ordering...is that Roo or Cowhide?

I only make roohide whips. The hides I've recently found are a nice heavy weight, perfect for Indy whips.
