way back in the mists of time i saw a jacket in a film and was immediately smitten, i would have done anything to get my hands on that jacket, but i thought that it would never happen.then i found this site and it took a nano second for me to have my credit card in my hand and off i went to wested's site.GLORY BE I'm in Raiders Heaven, I've just ordered a custom novapelle raiders jacket with TOD pockets and have plans for a custom HH in raiders or maybe LC spec. the wait will be unbearable but I'm counting the minutes.great site you have here guys very informative and friendly there are some fantastic jackets out there and i must say it just made the choice harder on my CC but hey you only live once and one jacket can NEVER be enough :)i think you all know what i mean

Welcome to the Lounge and congrats on the new Wested! I've got a Lambskin Raiders-style Wested that I've had for about 6 years and it's been a great jacket. I hope you enjoy your Novapelle Raiders. Don't forget to post us some pics!

Will do mate, thanx for the welcome .do you have any photos of your jacket on site that i can look at I know I've posted plenty of pics of my Wested in this section and in the Photo gallery where I have a whole thread of my gear pics, but I'll save you the time and trouble of digging them up by posting a few here. My jacket is a Custom Lambskin Raiders-style jacket from Wested, circa 2003. Original color was Dark Brown. Most of these pics are from the last couple of years, after the jacket has undergone a fair share of natural and artificial distressing, along with some minor modifications (I swapped out the brass-D-ring strap holders with flat-black metal loops and reconfigured the straps to match the Raiders jacket, and I used hot water to stretch and sculpt the front pocket flaps into a more accurate, scalloped look.)

Cheers GCR thats a fine looking jacket you have there i hope mine looks as good in time do you find the metal sliders that much better than the D rings or is it just an appearance thing? Both work just fine from a functional standpoint, I made the switch strictly to make the jacket more "Raiders" accurate, as the Raiders jacket had rectangular black metal loops or sliders, rather than the brass D rings that came standard on my Wested.

GCR, that jacket you have is EXACTLY what I want... EXACTLY.
Next time I get the funds together, I think I will give Wested a call...

Just a heads-up to all those who want a Wested like mine, be forewarned that it didn't start out that way. A lot of the worn and wrinkled character it has only developed after being worn a LOT. When it was brand new, it looked a bit different. Here's a shot of my current Wested, when it was new (back in 2003) next to my old Wested (purchased in 1999). My current Wested is on the Left, my old Wested on the right. As you can see, my current Wested started out very shiny and smooth. It took a while before it started to take on that wrinkled Indy-style look.

I already have a Wested that has the "worn" look... my washed goat. So now I have been looking for something more... longer-lasting... if that makes sense. Since the washed goat distresses so easily, I want something that is meant to be worn for a long, long time.

So GCR, that is a dark brown lambskin? What about it is custom? Was it to make it more SA?

So GCR, that is a dark brown lambskin? What about it is custom? Was it to make it more SA? I say "custom" to differentiate it from the current crop of OTR and Special Offer jackets that Wested offers. Back in 2003 there was just the regular old, custom-sized Wested. I sent in my measurements for the sleeve length, chest, shoulder, etc. and they custom made me a jacket to my sizes. I didn't ask for any extra modifications to make it more screen-accurate (I did make a few SA mods myself after the fact, as I noted above), I just wanted it made to Wested's Raiders pattern in dark brown lambskin, and that's exactly what I got. I know others have had issues with service or quality control or durability with their Westeds, but I am one of the many who got exactly what I ordered and have had zero problems with the jacket since then.

Ah, got ya. The Wested I have is considered custom, because the OTR sizes don't include long sizes. I have had it for several months now, and haven't noticed any durability issues or problems with the quality, and it's a washed goat. I also had a very pleasant experience with Wested, quick, excellent communication and the whole transaction took less than 3 weeks.

Hey GCR, I just have one more question for you about your jacket... how durable is it? I am a person who takes a lot of hikes, and I need a jacket that would survive scraping up against the occasional tree branch.

I'd forgotten I even had that site! Here, I'll save you the trouble! It's not super accurate or anything but a nice sturdy and quite heavy jacket. Get a size bigger than you normally would, they seem to run a bit tight. He also makes them in Novapelle and in predistressed cow. This one is a novapelle.
