A Total Recall Remake is Very Real www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=53284Neal H. Moritz and his Original Films are in final negotiations to develop and produce for Columbia Pictures a contemporary version of Total Recall, the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action movie directed by Paul Verhoeven, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The original, based on the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale," follows a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air.
The movie explores one of Dick's favorite topics, reality vs. delusion, as audiences never knew whether or not the story was a dream. Either way, the movie grossed a very real $261 million worldwide.
Calling Dick's story "prescient," Moritz said he hoped the advancements in technology and state-of-the-art visual effects can help tell the "Recall" story in a fresh way.I guess you can file this one under the category of "Yet Another Unecessary Remake". No production is perfect, but there's really nothing wrong with the original version, IMO. It's not even 20 years old! All of these remakes of movies from the 80's and 90's should be a clear warning shot across the bow to Indy fans. Sometime in the not so distant future, they'll remake Raiders as well. Ken

This is really pathetic. Sooner or later every movie is going to be a remake. Hollywood may not need a financial bailout but they need a serious creative bailout.

If you think that's scary, you should read all of the scripts I get on a monthly basis that are remakes or sequels to films the writer doesn't own the rights to; oh, and they're sending this idea to a production company who didn't make the film the first time!
Unfortunately, being in "the biz," I know how hard it is to convince some one to plop down a couple million to make your original story.
Scenario: A producer sits with two screenplays in his hands. One is an original time-travel story that's really good. The other is an idea for a remake on "Back to the Future." As it so happens, the producer was a fan of the original "Back to the Future." Guess which one gets the green light? This is how it works in real life, folks.
That is why studios hire guys like me to read all the crap that is thrown at them and toss out all the idiotic ideas for movies that are film version of TV shows, or remakes... Sadly, we can't stop the studios from seeking out a screenwriter and asking him to come up with a film version of "The Golden Girls." But you didn't hear that rumor from me...

It's both sad and true that the industry works this way. Just go ahead and count me out of that Golden Girls remake. I would rather watch KOTCS for the second time. ;D

Hey! Just stop, take a breath and cool down, man. You don't really mean that. Thanks for pulling me off the ledge like that. I might have jumped. BTW, I keep forgetting to tell you that I think that additional signature line of your's is dead on! ;D ;D ;D KOTCS is the 'Star Wars Christmas Special' of the Indy universe. Not only is that really funny, but I also believe the kids of today that enjoyed KOTCS will look back on it the same way Star Wars fans from the late 70's look back at the old Christmas Special. I enjoyed that as a kid because it allowed me to see the characters on TV. Only as I grew up more did I see it for the shameless, idiotic marketing idea it really was. Once again, you've nailed it sir! Ken
