It's Oscar season! Yeah I know, who cares? I thought this might be a good time to review Indy's Oscar history.
ROTLA Won 4 Oscars for Art Direction/Set Design, Visual Effects, Sound, and a Special Achievement Oscar for Sound Effects Editing. The film was also nominated for 4 more awards: Cinematography, Music, Director, and Best Picture.
Temple of Doom Won 1 Oscar for Visual Effects and was nominated for Music
Last Crusade Won 1 Special Achievement Oscar for Sound Effects Editing and was nominated for Music and Sound.
The latest Oscar nominees were announced today. KOTCS did not receive a single nomination in any category.

No surprises there, I'm sure.
What I really find interesting is that Raiders scored a nomination for Best Picture. A comparable Action/Adventure film made these days probably wouldn't even enter into the Best Picture discussion. I guess it serves as a testament to the impact Raiders had on audiences back then, and just how different Raiders was as a film when compared to the kinds of films that were being made at that same time. It seemed to revitalize the entire action/adventure genre (the way Star Wars seemed to revitalize the Sci-Fi/Adventure) but in doing so, it still found support in a broad audience and won critical respect. KOTCS? Not so much... ;D

Back then, the Academy willingly recognized films that were both successful and critically praised. Now, movies that audiences actually pay to see are automatically cast out no matter how much the critics liked them, too (Dark Knight).

I'm not surprised either that KOCS received no nominations. I not a big fan of the Oscars anyhow. Seems like a lot of Highly paid people patting themselves on the back for doing thier job.

John Amen!!!! Preach it John!!! I will Andy. In 2006 the "Gift Bags" for 'Attendees' of the Oscars was valued at $75,000.00 and for the 'Presenters' $100,000.00. "WTF" This year Gift Bags have been declared Income and are Taxable so they have been done away with. ;D As Far as Oscar nods, KOCS had it's few moments but I did not find anything Oscar worthy about it. And that goes from Sound Editing to Cinematography and any other category I can think of. MAYBE....If they had an Oscar for the most use of a Green Screen in an Adventure Movie category. ;D ;D ;D Cheers, John

For the Sound Effects Editing award they played a clip of the Raven Bar scene. It definately deserved the Award. Cheers, John

KOTCS did get a nomination from the Razzie awards for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip Off or Sequel. I don't know if it will win. There's a lot of competition in that category. www.razzies.com/history/08nomPOS.asp
