Old news for me, an archeology nut. I don't believe it. Maybe my religion (Christianity) has some bearing on that, but I believe the Ark was taken by the Babylonians and destroyed. The Ethiopian contingency requires a lot of faith on very little base. The "Tanis" theory is actually better, IMAO, because it makes more sense for the ark to have been stolen by the Egyptians in the time of King Josiah than have been taken back in the time of Solomon. If the Ark had been smuggled out when Nebechudnezzer had attacked Jerusalem, it is more likely for the Ark to have been carried North, or hidden in Israel, than to have gone to Ethiopia....

Not to mention that if it was made of solid gold, then it was most likely melted down for the conquerors' own purposes.

I saw a show on Discovery that discussed the idea that the Ark may have actually been a very large, African tribal drum the size of a VW Bug. I believe that when the head was struck, the sound was like thunder and deep enough that any person listening to it during those times, could infer that the bass sound waves they are really feeling were the invisible hand of God running through their body.

I saw a documentary like that too, the "ark" they found wasn't as big as that. Maybe the size of a baby bath. It was a bit drawn out, somthing like an hour and a half. Interesting but could have been told in an hour. The drum was in a museum in Harare. |

The Bible (specifically, the Torah) says that it was a box of shiitim wood covered in gold, with two Seraphs with outspread wings on top of it. The Bible passes the three Archeological tests (internal, external, and bibliographic) better than any ancient document in history. I see no reason to doubt it. The whole "drum" comes (WITH NO DISRESPECT MEANT) from black liberation theology. It comes from a branch that says that the children of Israel were Africans in the heart of Africa, and the same promises apply to them.....yaddada, yaddada. I don't think the Ark would have been destroyed by Nebachudnezzer simply because he feared the Hebrew God, even if he didn't worship him (at first...the book of Daniel shows that Nebechudnezzer may have converted to Judaism later in life.)

One interesting fact from this programme is that the Ethiopian tribe in question is shown to be directly decended from a sect within the Jewish religious class from the time in via DNA testing. |

My gut tells me it's still sitting out there somewhere and when the time is right it will be found. I don't believe for a minute it was destroyed or melted down IF it was made out of solid gold.

Not saying there aren't ethiopian Jews, but I still don't buy this "drum" thing. I doubt the ark will ever be found. There are some Jews (and some Christians) who believe that the Ark was taken to Heaven.....Either way, I don't expect rays of light to kill its finders.

Look, if you actually believe religion, (As I do) Only someone having the PROPER priesthood authority would be able to look upon and object, so it would not nessacarilly be a jew, and even the Priest would be unable to look upon it when Jehovah (Christ) was present. As well, if you paid attention, no one would be able to destroy it. Someone was probably commanded to remove it before the Destruction of the Temple. (I know the LDS church has a legend that people from Jerusalem came to the Americas around the time the Ark goes Poof. As well, it just so happens that the or an American Indian Tribe (I think it was the Aztec) have a claim to it.

I have learned a very very valuable lesson in life... If it is on the History Channel, or Discovery Channel, it is most likely fiction... Let me put it this way, the History Channel has about as much History on it as Music Television (MTV) had music on it (prompting the name change to MTV without music television below it).... The History Channel should be renamed Ice Road Trucker Pawnshop owners searching for the "Truth Behind Nastradaumus and the Mayan Appocolypse caused by Global Warming at the Hands of Man Channel"
