I just got a great jacket as a gift. Its a west 42R. It fits me pretty well, looks great, as long as im standing still. If I fold my arms or do anything like squat or bend down, its really tight. Is that just normal because the leather isnt broken in? ill try to get pictures up. The jacket also seems a little short but im comparing it to other leather jackets I have, never an Indy. is it just the pattern is short? I dont wanna send it back because I need it for a Halloween party next Friday and I am worried about it getting here on time. I dont wanna geta 42 L either because the sleeves fit fine I dont want them any longer, just the back but if its normal maybe not. does anyone else have pictures of their jacket from behind?
p.s its a 42R wested soft goat, the one that is cut to the slimmer film screen version

The Indiana Jones style jacket is not a long jacket. A backlength that reaches to the top area of your back (pants) pockets is usually normal. It's also normal for a somewhat (and I stress somewhat) close fit in the body. There should be adequate slack or "room" to move around and maneuver without the jacket feeling too tight and constricting, but a proper Indy jacket shouldn't be too "baggy" either. Rather than looking at pics of other people in their jackets, how about posting a few shots of you in your new Wested? That way we'd be able to see how it looks on you and we can give you our opinions based on that.

Honestly the fit of that jacket looks dead-on to me. Every Indy jacket I've ever owned has been a bit snug once I've zipped it up as high as you've got it in a couple of those pics, but I mostly tend to wear the jacket open as well, or sometimes leave it at half-zip.
My advice is to keep it if it mostly fits and only feels a little snug here and there when it zipped. It sure looks great, but a bigger size would probably end up being too baggy.

I'd say that fit is just about perfect. It's supposed to be fitted at the shoulders and relatively short, similar to a classic A-2 jacket. Loosening up the straps may give you a little more room to flex your shoulders. It's just an older style fit, not like what you find today. Give it some time. I think you'll learn to love it.

Well, I have to take a slightly different view here. If it feels wrong when wearing it, it will turn into something that sits in the closet and not on your back - if something doesn't feel right we tend to not wear those clothes even if they look good.
From the photos I certainly think it looks snug in the upper body area. Even if that were 100% SA, you are going to be wearing this for long amounts of time in real life and not for a few minutes between 'takes'. Also, you are a young guy and will probably fill out a little still. Not to say you'll get fat, but you might have a bit of growing left to do and this jacket won't tolerate even a slight change if already feeling tight.
Just my opinions but I like when people are able to get the most out of what they buy!

I have to agree with Sapito here. At first, I was just thinking about an SA look but I had a Todds that had that look but I was just never comfortable with the fit. I just like a little looser, longer jacket and that's what I go for now. It's not got the complete SA look but I feel good wearing it.
