Art Fawcett Fedora

I have wanted to acquire a different Fedora than all my Indys. I wanted basically the same shaped hat but with an entirely different color scheme. I discussed this with Marc and asked him about Art Fawcett of Vintage Sihouettes.

He told me that Art was a great guy and helped him by answering questions and passing on information that many other Hatters normally would not.

I checked out Art's Website and was totally impressed with the photos of hats that he has made.

I called Art and he was about the most pleasant person that you could hope to speak with. I placed an order immediately.

Within a few days I received a conformer a measuring device to make an accurate fitting for my specific hat. I never knew what a bunch of wierd bumps and lumps my head had til I used this thing. ;D

I asked Art to replicate this hat. He told me " I think that's a Borsolino. Yes, I can make that."

After only a 2-1/2 month wait here is what Art came up with for me.

It has a 5-3/4" crown [open] and a 2-5/8" brim [non dimesional cut].

I am extremely pleased.

From what I understand, Art is just as nice a guy as he is a skilled hatmaker.

What a beautiful hat! My great grandfather, in the early 1900's, wore his hat brims flipped up in the front on one side just like that. I think that must have been an old style that has been virtually forgotten except by Depp. That's quite an impressive collection of samples that Art provided, too. I've only heard the highest praise for Art and his work. This just confirms it even more.

I've always liked the looks of Art's hats, and this one is no exception. He really has a knack for being able to capture that vintage essence that old-school hats have (unlike most modern factory-made hats). I've always been interested in acquiring a hat from Art myself, but I think it may be a while before I;ve got the money to splurge.

Anyways, your hat looks great! All it's missing is the hole at the top of the pinch.
