I Am Legend Prequel Moving Forward www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=49143Variety is confirming what Francis Lawrence told ShockTillYouDop.com at Comic-Con International two months ago, that Warner Bros. is starting to get the ball rolling on a prequel to the 2007 Will Smith blockbuster I Am Legend, which grossed $584 million internationally.
As Lawrence already told us, he'll be returning to direct, and Variety reports that Will Smith will return as Dr. Robert Neville, as well as co-produce with his Overbrook Entertainment partner James Lassiter and the original movie's producer Akiva Goldsman. The screenplay is written by D.B. Weiss based on a detailed outline that was created by the combined forces of Smith, Goldsman, Lassiter and Lawrence, which will cover the final days of humanity in New York City before a man-made virus creates a plague that wipes out the population, leaving Neville alone with the mutated inhabitants. This sounds so unnecessary. I don't see what this movie could offer that the first one didn't cover. The novelty of seeing an abandoned New York wore off fast in the first movie. I just didn't think there was much to it. I wish they'd put their effort into something new - even the first one was just a remake. I think Will Smith's too good to be wasting his time and talent on this.

Anyone see "Omega Man" with Charleton Heston? It is based off the book, "I Am Legend." Basically it's an early 70's take on the present day "I Am Legend" movie.

I think the Heston version is much better even though it lacks the impressive effects of the Will Smith movie. There's an even earlier version with Vincent Price. I think it was called Last Man on Earth or something like that.

I though the Charlton Heston version was a very fun movie to watch. Heston added a humorous touch to his role. Will Smith added a dramatic touch; both of which are good takes on this role. And you're right, the very first film based on the book, "I Am Legend," was "The Last Man On Earth" with Vincent Price. It makes me a little interested to see it! www.imdb.com/title/tt0058700/

I think the Heston version is much better even though it lacks the impressive effects of the Will Smith movie. There's an even earlier version with Vincent Price. I think it was called Last Man on Earth or something like that. The Last Man on Earth was the best out of the three and stayed the most faithful to the Richard Matheson novel. It's one of those situations where a low budget forces you to tell a better story without all that unnecessary spectacle. The Will Smith version was terrible and I still don't understand why it was so popular. I imagine a prequel could only be worse. I remember reading the script for the Arnold Schwarzenegger version they had planned on doing years ago. It wasn't very good, but still would have been more entertaining than this latest one.

IMO Omega Man was far better but maybe thats just because i grew up with it. I really can't see any of the younger generation looking back at I'am Legend with such fondness
