I know there probably isn't much demand for it, but does anyone know if someone makes a gold monkey statue prop from "Tales of the Gold Monkey" tv series? This was one of my favorite shows as a kid and the only item I own is a TV series storybook.

I don't think so, otherwise I would own one. Probably the only collector's item available (I've got that book too )

Maybe I'll make creating a Golden Monkey statue one of my next projects. If any of you guys have some decent screen shots to send me, it would be much appreciated.

Not many good shots of the monkey itself...I'll see what I can come up with.

Good luck with making a prop of this. Years ago, I tried making one from an old lawn ornament/figurine that I bought at a flea market. The figure was actually a sitting baboon about 12" tall and made of lead and weighed 23 lbs. I think it was from the late 1800's. It had once been painted but the paint had mostly worn off - probably lead paint, too. I scraped off the remaining paint and repainted it with gold paint but it just didn't turn out so well. Also, there was no staff which I thought was crucial. I don't know what happend to the figure. It seems to have disappeared sometime over the years. I'm always on the lookout for a close enough monkey figure in brass. If I remember my plotlines correctly, the real gold monkey turned out to be brass not gold. The tv show prop looks like painted plaster to me.

Thanks so much Stefana. These actually help a ton. I think I'll be able to manage a close enough sculpture. This will take me quite some time I imagine. It's been years since I've sculpted anything, I mostly paint. If this project turns out half way decent, I'll eventually post pics. You guys can tell me if it's worth making a cast of. I'd love to be able to sell a few of them to true fans. I'm not looking to make a business or profit out of this. I would just like to see if the fans appreciated this kind of prop.
I think you're right Havana , about the monkey being brass. It's been so long since I've seen an episode. They really need to hurry up with those DVD's.

Always glad to help.
"It is brass"...As Willie (rev. Tenboom) said after rubbing it. It is mentioned in the storybook also.

That is AWESOME! People all over the web are screaming for this show to be released on DVD. The hang up is that Universal says it requires digital restoration first which makes it a far more expensive venture. I don't know what kind of dollar figure they're looking at but it must be pretty high with over 20 hours of episodes.

Remember the Gold Monkey is not that prop. In the story it's made of brass. The pilot ends confirming the legend that the gold monkey is the size of a house and the monkeys guard it

Also if you want to sit in the ultimate prop from Tales, a real Grummin Goose. They have one at the Palm Springs Air Museum. If you are real nice to the guy he will let you sit in it even though it's supposed to only be for kids. It's a real one so it's not painted like Jake's of course but it was still very cool and yes I pushed and pulled the throttle handle several times. This is a still flying capable Goose so enjoy

Dan,
Did you ever make that prop? I'm looking to create an award at work for teams, and this would make a great "trophy."

If anyone is interested in having your own golden monkey please contact me at lainatollefsen@aim.com I made this for a client out of clay, fired it and spray painted it gold. This is about 10" tall but the desired size is negotiable. Email me for details. Thank you. Attachments:
