I'm certainly the last person to be overly optimistic about anything these days, but perhaps this is a good sign... If Lucas is beginning to consider the whole "Shia takes the lead and Indy takes a seat in the sidecar" direction for Indy 5 a mistake, then maybe, just maybe, he'll see all of the other areas where he went wrong in Indy 4, and the 5th installment (if it ever happens) might actually be a decent movie... ;D Or we could end up with the "Elvis" storyline. ;D

As self contained as Lucas is with his work, he has to have read/heard about the overwhelming negative comments regarding Indy 4. If he was smart enough to severely cut back Jar Jar's role in Star Wars II, and almost completely remove him from III, I think he must be considering public opinion here as well.
I no longer trust his decision making or believe he truly gets what people love about Indiana Jones. It's more than Ford in a close enough outfit, going after something... somewhere... thrown together as easily as possible. The entire look and energy has to be there for the locations, sets, and other characters for it to all come together.
Like GCR said... maybe this is a sign he got the message and might help return the character, look, and story to the level of Indy's roots. One can only hope....
