Hello fellow thrill seekers. I was wondering if there was a method to lighten the shade of My Akubra...It's just a bit too dark brown. I'm not opposed to wearing it constantly, but was just wondering if there was a quicker way...(like sanding with 1000 grit.) Any advice...wether to do it, or just let time take it's course.

The sun will fade the color, so leaving it in the sun would certainly speed up the fading process. However, the heat might also shrink the sweatband and taper the crown much faster than normal.

That's what I figured. But while in the sun, it would be on my noggin, as I wear the hat pretty much constantly. It's starting to collect a bit of dust...(from exploring an abandoned gold mine outside of town. Maybe letting the dust settle in, and going for a Todd's ribbon may be the best option.
I presume that I am incorrect that sanding/pouncing won't lighten it up much?

There was a gentleman who used to hang around here that used watered down bleach on his Akubra to lighten it. Personally, I would never try that, sounds like an easy way to ruin a perfectly good hat.

No way will I use bleach...too scary to ponder. I'm just gonna let nature do it's thing, then get a hat ribbon from Todd's.
