new ROLA goat special for newbie

hi all!
All started with a Wested cow skin jacket that i bought as Christmas gift to myself last year...then greed came in! Then it sat there for a while, trying to decide weither i would go this time for a Todd or a new Wested for my next jacket! And why another one, mind you?! It's surprisingly easy to come up with reasons and excuses when it comes to another indy jacket. In my case i wanted to feel a new drape (lighter than cow leather) and also find something more SA....something for warmer days....though in Scotland, it's bit of a hit and miss at the moment.
After many a reading, browsing this great forum, i finally decided to jump onto the offer from Wested, and since i would make that jacket more of a field jacket, i went for goat skin, being stronger yet light leather.
Sorry for the long introduction, here's some pics and specs:
-special offer ROLA goat skin, 42.
- back length: 26
-sleeve length: 24 1/2
-i'm 5"9, by the way.
Lengthwise, it's a tad long for me(1 inch here and there, specially the sleeves)...i might shrink it later if needed, no rush.


Quick delivery! Ordered on Saturday, arrived on Wednesday!
This is not straight out of the bag, though, it went into the shower for a couple of minutes, then i wore it for an hour or so in order to give it some shape.

It creases relatively easily and hopefully obtain a descent drape.



pics are a bit dark...early morning, you can tell by my scruffy face!

Now, let's go for some natural distressing!

Welcome to Indy Lounge and congrats... I think the jacket looks awesome after the extra treatment!

Those sleeves are actually the perfect length, as the leather will draw up with wrinkles and such. You can shrink it quicker by wetting it again and dyring it in the dryer on low heat(supervised of course). However, I think the rest of the jacket looks like it fits just fine. I would hate to see you screw everything else up, trying to speed up what will happen naturally to the sleeves.

Welcome! Your jacket, aside from looking great, is the exact way I like my jackets to fit. It's best to have them a little long in the sleeve and waist I find. Congrats on a fine wested .

I think the fit of your jacket is spot on. More often than not, folks tend to go too short in their Indy jackets. Got to love the new goatskin too - I have one myself and am very pleased with it.

Dude, that thing is not a bit too long for you. It's exactly the way I try to get mine, well done! Indy's jacket never looked as short as some try to make out, to me. Anyway I love it - congrats!!

Hey was your jacket the "combo" that Wested offers for 210 pounds which includes pants and shirt? Also, can you tell us your basic height, weight etc... and what size you ordered? I get so confused by Westeds site..and myriad of options. Does this one have leather inside, lining the zippers?

That looks fantastic! It reacts so well to the hot water treatment.

I don't think it looks too long at all.

How do you like it compared to your cow? I always found the cow to be too heavy and stiff for my taste.

I have to say, the comments and posts i read on this board have been playing a lot into the final decision, so i thought i would share the new acquisition in return for the valuable advices. I am very pleased with the jacket length...i think that it was the fact that i was used to my other wested, in cow skin...much shorter...but strangely, it is suppose to be my correct size, 40 regular. i will post the pics below for comparison.

-heigh: 1m75 (5'9)
-weight: 72kg
-size chest: 39

this jacket is a 42. The order is for the jacket special only. I've specified a regular size but i don't know if those specials come with much options. I based my new jacket size according to the chart posted on the Wested site:
SIZE (Chest) 42 Reg
SHOULDER 6.75
SLEEVE 24.75
BACK 25.25

This what i received:
SIZE 42
SLEEVE 24 1/2
BACK 26
So it is pretty close!
As far details about that jacket, it has two inside pockets, one of them with a zip. No leather facing in the inside. Cotton linen with silk sleeves.

pagey: thanks! I have to say, it was your post about your goat special that decided me on that one. It IS a very comfy jacket, with a bright future in front of it! I would recommand it myself.

Kt. Templar: cheers, mate!...and no hot water treatment for this one.i gave it a cold shower instead...seemed to have make a difference already for the leather.

and now some pics of my WESTED cow hide, dark brown:

much shorter!! It is a 40 regular.Raiders cut. Sleeves are surprisingly short for the jacket size, 23 inches.

The body length doesn't bother me though...i think it gives a cool 30's/40's look, kinda like "great escape" or "secret of the incas" ..check out the length of the jacket on Charly: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NveefDpjK6k



I lke the way the cow hide is easily distressing, also very soft to the touch.

That cowhide looks like a Novapelle Cowhide to me. Great leather, my current favourite.

You don't see too many of those raiders style.

Moai, this post has been most helpful for me. I ordered a Novapelle Last Crusade last week,
a 42 R. Wasn't sure If I should have gone with a 40R (Bit late now!), but I have EXACTLY the same measurments as you, chest, weight and height anyway (uncanny!), and I think the new 42 looks perfect on you. Now I'm relieved, and want my jacket right now!

I'm pretty sure he won't respond to this. He has 8 posts and this thread is from 2008. I could be wrong, though. I've been wrong a couple of times before...
