Wow, talk about a film thet should not be remade!
I know we often talk about how Raiders is one of those films that stands as it is and that should not be remade? I think that Highlander must join that list too.
Todays Dark Horizons has a article telling how the writers of Iron Man have been hired to write are make of the original Highlander.
Highlander was one of my favourite films of the 80's, I LOVED the action, the backwards and forwards in time thing, and the music were all fantastic. All sequels and the series that came after were a pale imitation, they've now run it into the ground and want to reboot?!
Please leave it alone, you'll be wanting to remake Alien and Blade Runner next!

Yeah, I gotta agree with you wholeheartedly KT. They need to just leave Highlander alone. It is one of those movies that was really good the way it was, and shouldn't be toyed around with. If they want to remake a Highlander movie, why don't they go back and remake Highlander 2 into a decent sequel! ;D

The ONLY reason I'm for this is because they made such a mess of the "universe" they created for these characters. The second film totally destroyed everything and then the other films and the series just convaluted things even more.
I really did enjoy the first film and I love the whole concept. I believe if they restart it and and keep things straight it will be even bigger than it was before.
The hardest part in my mind will be coming up with actors that can replace Lambert, Connery and Brown. Clancy Brown made one nasty villian and he was perfect. I still can't believe he does the voice of Mr. Krabs on SpongeBob Squarepants! ;D

I can go along with the idea of remaking a movie if:
1. The original concept was great, but poorly excecuted.
2. Technical advances would greatly improve the story telling experience.
Both of these situations seem to only be applicable with older movies, which is somewhat understandable. However, remaking something just to cash in on a new generation of viewers when there is nothing wrong with the original is where I think many people get soured. Perhaps flushing out the current corporate decision makers in Hollywood might allow new stories and methods to finally take hold.
I guess the Joker summed it up best.... "This town needs an enema".

I thought that this may be only a matter of time and don't know how i feel about it. I am a huge fan of the Highlander Universe. I love the films (except The Source) and i thought that the TV series was very well done. I have collected a lot of Highlander stuff over the years and i still re-watch the movies and periodically and the series about once a year. Granted, the series didn't follow the original movie's continuity, but that was explained back in 1991 or 1992 by Panzer and Davis as the Television series being set in an "alternate reality" where the gathering hadn't occured yet. I'm excited and conflicted about this, but i do agree that if done properly on a decent budget that it could be a visually stunning masterpiece...at least for me.

Actually, I have a question... I thought that there was one version of the original Highlander.... then I heard that the European version was different to the original US release. A few years ago the "Renegade" version was released and I hungrily snapped it up, as it turns out it was exactly the same as the European release... So the question is.... was the original US theatrical release different, or am I mistaken. Why release a Renegade version?? Isn't is sad that the high point of Highlander 2 was Connor selecting a Queen song on the jukebox?

So the question is.... was the original US theatrical release different, or am I mistaken. Why release a Renegade version?? Isn't is sad that the high point of Highlander 2 was Connor selecting a Queen song on the jukebox? The original version of Highlander 2 changed the mythos up substantially. In 2, the immortals were a race of aliens from the planet Zeist. There were waring factions of rebels fighting against fascist-like leadership led by General Katana (Michael Ironside). When rebels were defeated, they were banished to earth. Once on earth, they were immortal and would fight their way through the centuries battling other exiles from planet Zeist. The prize for the winner is: a choice between going back to Zeist or becoming mortal and growing old. The RENEGADE version (the European version) of the film omits all alien references and any mention of the planet Zeist. In addition, about 20 minutes of cut footage was re-inserted into the film to make up for all the alien stuff being taken out. Lambert did not want to be in this movie as it was intended. He has done several interviews over the years explaining that he and others were opposed to the whole alien take on it, but he was contractually obligated to be in at least one sequel. Some of you out there may disagree with this, but I can only tell you what I've seen personally (multiple interviews) and read personally (multiple articles). I am not completely familiar with Connery's take on the film, so I cant speak of that, as it would be just conjecture on my part. I enjoyed Highlander 2 for what it was: a kickass action flick with 2 characters that I love. On the same token I was also really displeased with the changes in the mythos regarding the alien plot. I feel that this movie would have been great on its own....if it had been an original story by itself and not a sequel to a cult classic. Highlander 3, in my mind and some others, is the sequel to Highlander. It has its flaws, but there are no aliens. KT, if haven't seen the original Highlander 2, ya may want to check it out just for amusement purposes.

Kind of like using John Williams' Superman score in Superman Returns. Seriously though, Highlander should not have had any sequels with the way they all turned out. I guess I would have to see them again (or not) but after Clancy Brown as Kurgan, all the other villains were weak.

Well I tink I´m going mad here DO not make a remake of highlander I´s fine as it is if there's money to be made (or a studio thinks there's money to be made) they'll remake anything! The devout fan's views have never been a concern to those who sit in the ivory tower.

KT i couldn't agree with you more, leave it alone. remakes are such a cop out, the lazy option IMO if you look at all those that didn't work (get carter springs to mind) you'd think they would try something original, wow what a concept originality!!
