Did anyone see the Sci-Fi channel's 2 hour special called the Mystery of the Crystal Skulls last night? It was a pseudo documentary that covered some of the Crystal Skull legends and the possible origins of the skulls. The most interesting part was the extremely brief scientific analysis provided by the Smithsonian Institute which has one crystal skull in their collection and they also examined the most famous known crystall skull. They concluded that both theirs and the most famous one were manufactured in Europe during the late 19th century using modern machinery. They claimed that none of the skulls they've examined are Pre-Columbian despite some fantastic discovery tales associated with them. Microscopic analysis clearly shows regular machining marks on the skulls. Ancient hand tools were not used to creat them. Sci-Fi didn't dwell on this but instead focused more on the alien and magical theories. One guy even claimed one was found on the moon.

Damn...I missed this one, I was watching the Indy show on History last night. The History Channel show did have a brief segment on the skulls as well, but surprisingly they didn't even mention any of tests that revealed the skulls to be from the 19th century. I had heard about the tests beforehand, I was a little shocked that a History Channel skipped right over such a significant morsel of information. A bit strange that on the Sci-Fi channel, the truth behind the possible origin of the skulls is at least mentioned in passing, while the History channel doesn't even bother to bring it up.  ;D ;D How was the Sci-Fi show otherwise? |

The phrase uber-cheesey comes to mind. They kept referring to legends without any context or statement of origin. Supposedly, there are 13 skulls. 8 have been found. If the remaining 5 aren't found by 2012 when the Mayan calender resets, we're all going to die. Also, there were once extensive human civilizations on Mars. They spread to the moon and then to Earth. NASA knows about this and has been covering it up for years. They found a crystal skull or perhaps a robot head on the moon in 1970. You know just the usual stuff. Also, crystal skulls are responsible for human civilization, Stonehenge, the Great Pyramids, the Grand Canyon, and the 426 Hemi. Bigfoot was mysteriously absent from any of the theories. Hey, you asked.

As far as I know the Mitchell-Hedges skull has not been studied by anyone in recent years and is still held in a private collection. That is the one I'm most interested in because it's the one that's the most detailed.

The Mitchell-Hedges skull was the main focus of the program. The Smithsonian shot it down. It was interesting that it was the only two piece skull. It had definite rotary tool marks on it. The skulls themselves are interesting. I wish they had cut out all the BS and had just spent more time on the skulls as artifacts.

I watched both of these shows last night.
The Sci-Fi show was a little lame and just kept repeating itself. And when they went with the owner of the Mitchell-Hedges skull, it appeared that he looked around a few locations for an afternoon (at each spot) and then shrugged and was like "If it is here, we may never find it." Thanks for spending two hours on that. Oh, and finding a skull on the moon?! I'll bet Tom Curise put it there.
The History Channel special was much more interesting, though, much like any TV documentary, they spent a lot of time recapping what was just said, and most of the people they talked to said the same thing: "Modern archeology is nothing like Indiana Jones." What I did find interesting is that they all admitted that it used to be that way! So...awesome. But I was let down because I thought the show was going to be a sociological look at the character of Indiana Jones and how he and the films have influenced the field of study as well as the general population.

Actually, looking through mythology, the Akakor myth is real. That's right, Akakor, not Akator. And, apparently, they have found abnormally shaped REAL skulls there. I missed the Sci-Fi channel one; did anyone record it? As lame as it sounds, I still would've liked to have seen it. Looks like Sci-Fi's not running it anymore.
