Well, I recently ordered a new bagstrap for my MK-VII from Todd, and while I was perusing his website, I happened to notice he had a link to an Indy gun. www.toddscostumes.com/indy/indiana_jones_sw_revolver.htmSome of you might remember Todd's old S&W replica project that ended up getting bogged down in copyright and trademark problems before Todd finally aborted the project. This new gun isn't an extention of that it seems, but is essentially a pre-existing replica made by Tanaka of a .38 that Todd puts new grips and a lanyard loop on. Still looks pretty "Indy" to me (though I think I'll still hold out for the real deal, as it's easier for me to get the real thing thanks to the moronic laws in this state anyway. ). I just figured I'd pass the info along as it doesn't look like it's come up. If you live in a state where airsofts are easy to obtain, this might be the Indy replica for you. - GCR

Man, that's pretty cool and I wouldn't mind owning one but the problem I have with it is that once you get up that high in price you might as well save your money and buy a real gun.
Plus, why carry around something that could be easily mistaken for being real? IF things go south you've got no way to really defend yourself....

It's nice but it's just WAY too small IMO. The .38 - when put right next to a HE2 - looks like a ladies gun No pun, just something you should be aware of BEFORE searching in your holster for a small gun Regards, Marc

Pit, Do ya mean "defend yourself" legally from a breach of peace charge? I know that in the northern states, that's the kind of thing one would need to worry about if you walked around in public with it exposed, unconcealed on your person. As far as self-defense purposes go, I'm not familiar with the southern states, but I do know that unconcealed weapons are far less frowned upon down there.

I agree (hence my reasoning on waiting until I locate a real HE2 / M1917 that I can convert to Bapty specs), however, if this were 50 bucks and I could actually get my hands on one without any issues, I'd probably pick one up. Good point, but that's pretty much true for BB-guns, Airsoft, non-firing replicas, realistic toy and squirt-guns, gun shaped cigarette lighters, etc. In truth, I really wouldn't advocate carrying anything other than a real firearm (provided you're licensed to do so) as anything else just puts you at more risk legally AND at more risk for physical harm, either from folks who have figured out your "gun" isn't real, and then realize you pose them no threat...or from cops who think it IS real, and shoot you. Anyways, I'd also have to agree with Marc on the size issue between the .45 sized frame and the .38, one really does notice the difference when they're side by side. Why is it that with all the companies out there making airsofts and replicas and all that jazz, NONE of them ever decided to replicate a proper M1917 style revolver? -GCR

It always makes me turn my head, because I'm not from around here originally, but nobody else seems to care.

I totally forgot about this replica! I saw it a few months ago and never brought it up here. As for gun toting southerners, I have a funny story. I used to work at a convenience store. Well, one night this huge guy came in and bought some potato chips. The cash total was $1.75 or something. As he was reaching for change, he said, "Don't get scared," and pulled a .38 out of his blue jeans and placed on the counter. So, I looked at it and said, "OK." When in my head I was thinking am I going to be robbed? So, he gave me the change, put his pistol back in his pocket and walked out. True freakin' story. -Josh

Ken, I wasn't referring to Florida and I probably should have specified the south-western states instead. Kaplan's right about his neck of the woods and knows what I'm referring to. Arizona and other states out that way have gun laws that are nearly polar oppisites to Northeastern states and east coast states in general. In CT and Virginia, one would be looking at a breach of peace charge for unconcealed carry on a civilian, where as in Arizona, you can carry unconcealed, but if your going to carry concealed ya need a concealed weapons permit (Kaplan, if I'm wrong about any of this, please correct me). The variation of gun laws in this country from state to state is mind blowing. Desert Dweller's Disclaimer: I'm not trying to rain on anybody's Indy pistol (revolver) parade and lord knows I am not familar with all the different states laws. I just don't want to see anyone get in to a potential legal bind in their state of residence, so please check on the laws in your state before hitting the streets in full gear.
