.....I'm pretty damn happy. So please indulge me while I show off for a minute. I just acquired a British contract .455 HE2. It's serial number is consistent with British contract guns, which the Bapty revolver was. Plus it has the same British markings in the same spot as the Bapty. So...this week it gets these grips put on it (when they arrive in the mail) And from there I send it to the gunsmith where he will remove the original barrel and install this one: Of course, I'm going to have him cut that barrel down to 4 inches and put a Bapty style ramp sight on it too. So, pretty soon I'll have a REAL Indy gun. Waddya think?

Andy, that is AWESOME, man!!! That piece sure is a beauty! I've been dying to get my hands on a decent S&W for a LONG time, but other things (like the expense, for one) keep infringing upon my search. I have always LOVED the Raiders S&W, specifically the Bapty version (thought the Stembridge is no slouch ) and I really wish they had made it Indy's "signature" sidearm, rather than the Webley. And Webley fans, don't get me wrong, the Webley sure as hell looks cool and is definitely more "unique" as far as signature sidearms go, but from a practical standpoint, it really makes no sense. It's just too big and too heavy, in my opinion. The ol' S&W .45 (or in the case of the Bapty, .455) with a cut-down barrel makes a LOT more sense, as far as I'm concerned. But anyways...that is one hell of a fine revolver you've got there, Kap. Do you plan to acquire some .455 ammo and take it shooting? I'm jealous as hell! ;D Congrats! -GCR

Thanks Griff! It had actually already been rechambered to .45 Auto Rim (cheaper than .455 and doesn't need moon clips). So, I'm going to certainly shoot it when I get it back from the gunsmith. There is a slight timing issue that needs fixing as well. It could be a while before I get it back. This gunsmith is very talented with revolvers, but he is also very busy.

.45 Auto Rim, eh? Good idea. I'll be looking forward to seeing it once it's all "Baptyfied". ;D -GCR

GCR (or anyone from Mass) I'm from Connecticut originally, but being from CT we were always told that Massachusetts has some really strict firearms laws, at least travelling through Mass. Can you guys purchase handguns there at all or do ya need some type of concealed carry permit? In CT, we need concealed carry permits. The different laws for different states amazes me. I'm getting ready to move to AZ and out west in some places you need a permit to carry concealed, but you can buy and carry unconcealed with no permit at all. In the northeast, you'd get arrested for breach of peace doing that. I just find it interesting.

Well, I was going to try and explain it myself, but I'll let my tax dollars do the work for me (sarcasm ;D ) and just quote directly from the official Mass website: CLASS “A" LTC: Permits the purchase, possession and carrying of all ammunition, handguns, rifles, shotguns and feeding devices (both large and non-large capacity). This is the only license that allows the carrying of concealed handguns-either loaded or unloaded.
CLASS “B" LTC: Permits the purchase, possession and carrying of all ammunition, non-large capacity handguns, and all rifles and shotguns (large and non-large capacity). One can also obtain an FID card which allows for the purchase of non-high capacity rifles, shotguns, ammo, pepper spray and mace. But for any type of handguns, you've got to go for the Class A or B. So that's that. Hope this clarifies. -GCR

Oh man... No matter how much I'd be willing to pay, I wouldn't be allowed to own such a beauty. Congrats Andy! It's a real keeper. If you ever wanna part with it, let me know (it'll only take me two years to get a license). HIGH regards, Marc

It's costing me more than I'd like to admit. But, I'm hoping that once all the parts are together and the way I want them it will feel worthwhile to ME. He2 - $575 Grips - $180 Barrel - $100 Gunsmithing - $200? ? (I think) Having the perfect Bapty that I always wanted: PRICELESS!

AMEN to that my friend Besides: I paid round about 400 Euro in total for my blanc replica. That is 640$! Considering that you got the real deal for 400$ more... I don't think you paid to much on this one. Regards, Marc

It a barrel swap, a barrel chop, create and install new sights, and fix the cylinder bolt timing problem the gun has. It's most likely going to take 2 months. But I'll wait as long as it takes. This gunsmith is busy because he's good at what he does. When it arrives, I'll be sure to post a photo extravaganza.

I know that's quite a bit of cash you invested in this Kap but I think it's money spent "wisely".......I really hope I can do something like this in a year or so.... Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Can't wait to see how it turns out. Well, you know, I remember reading some gearhead somewhere making the argument that having an Indy conversion done to your firearm would be a good investment due to the fact that there is always a dedicated market of fans that would probably buy it. Although I don't ever plan to sell it, I have to tell myself something. I mean...the bapty revolver is just so damn cool! That ramp sight just screams "Andy! empty your wallet right now!"

;D ;D I think all the gear screams "Empty your wallet" to me. ;D Wise investment for sure, but like you I would NEVER sell it either.....unless I had no choice at all. I really wish Indy would have carried the Bapty in the other films. I've never been a really big fan of the Webley..... Heck, it looks to me like we'll be lucky to see Indy with any gun in this new film.

At least he's packing heat again. I don't have a problem with the Webley. It's just that I like the S&W better, too.
