Hi All, I just picked up my new Wested from a local tailor. It's a Wested "Standard" in Horsehide. The reason I took it to a tailor was the fact I didn't like the satin sleeves. I had some Pure Silk Poplin on hand and had the sleeves redone for $25.00. I think it was money well spent. Now the sleeves have a cotton feel to them. So in the end, its now a Wested with Cotton body / Silk sleeves. Please let me know how you think the jacket fits. Thanks.

Kobol, That Wested looks excellent, man! Cool idea changing out the sleeves. Was there any particular reason why the satin didn't work out? My current Wested (bought in 2003) has cotton body w/ satin sleeves that have held up perfectly for the last 5 years. But my older Wested (bought in 1999 and sold in 2003) had all satin throughout and the satin was not as strong and tended to fray when exposed to friction from watchstraps and rings in the sleeves or beard stubble around the collar. I wonder if Wested is using the older type of satin again? Anyways, sorry to ramble on about satin strength! ;D I think that new HH looks perfect on you...the color and fit are great! And the fedora looks pretty slick, too. -GCR

I just didn't like the feel of the satin for some reason. Can't really explain it. But since I had this silk which has a real cotton feel to it, I thought I would give it a try. Now it feels good to me. I guess sometimes it's these small things and nuances that makes one like a jacket that much better. I have an 80's fit Wested lambskin and compared to this standard version, I really like the extra weight of the leather and slightly roomier fit in the standard. I'm glad you like the fedora, It's my AB that I received a little while ago. I'm getting it broke in.

I think the jacket looks pretty good. The HH looks like it's pretty heavy. Is it? That was one of my biggest concerns when getting mine. Ultimately I went with Lambskin so I could wear it in the spring and summer, but that HH looks pretty damn good.
As for the satin, yeah, my first wested (before i returned it) the satin wasn't very... ideal, but for some reason it's very comfortable my new one. But the job your tailor did looks pretty good. Congrats on a cool jacket.

I have a Wested lambskin and you can definitely feel the difference in weight. For me it wasn't too bad, since I have been wearing my U.S. Authentic Horsehide A2 everyday which by comparison is much thicker and heavier. Putting the new Wested on was like night and day in terms of weight, it was a featherweight. But like others experiences with the horsehide, it just has a feel that it can take some abuse. It's got an almost perfect balance of weight and softness at least in my opinion.

I don't know, kobol...for my money nothin' beats the look and feel of Novapelle.
Ain't that right, KT?

I have to say, for a jacket that is heavier than the regular lambskin, HH still has a great look to the way it hangs and drapes. You know what I mean? It looks nice and soft and wrinkled in all the right spots...not stiff and heavy like other HH jackets I've seen (non Wested). That really is a great looking jacket, Kobol! You've definitely made my decision as to what type of Wested to go with next a lot more difficult. ;D (I had been torn between another Lambskin Raiders or a Novapelle LC...but now HH is on my list, too! Ah well, no worries...I can't afford a new jacket anyway! ;D ) -GCR

Well I have a predistressed cowhide Wested that I purchased used and the new HH is just slightly heavier and stiffer than it but they are pretty close. With all the choices of leather out there, it does make for a tough decision anymore. If money were no object, then owning one of each would probably be ideal and set one up for almost daily wearing throughout the year, but alas, I don't fall into that camp.
