I'm looking to make an old book. I've tried looking on ebay for a suitable blank journal but no luck. The below picture is a perfect example of what I'm going for. There is not going to be anything on the pages, it is only meant to be a display piece, like in a museum. Also, does anyone know how to get the ridges on the spine? I believe they are originally from the rope the book was bound in, and the leather was shrunk around it. But I'm a novice at 3D props, so I'm not sure how to do it.

that shouldnt be too hard to make, we did similar work on natiaonl treasure 2. Yea your right, rope, or a few pieces of chip cardboard would work. If you get goat skins they are pretty maluable and would stretch around the rope easily. The interior of the book would be made with cardboard too. Basically use whatever u think would make something like beat up, if its just distplay it deosnt matter, alot of real props are made with everyday stuff . Shoe polish, and a dremel tool can be ur best buddies.

I was hoping you would reply, indakin. Thanks for your input.
What about recovering an existing book to meet my needs? Does this follow the same process or is it more difficult?

What is the best way to attach the leather to the book? Wood glue? Super glue?
Also, I've found some leather, but the backside has a felt-like feel to it. Will this still work for what I want? I've never worked with this media before so I'm not sure of its natural or preferred state.
