[ December 13th 2007 ]PLAY magazine has scored an exclusive unveiling of Tomb Raider Underworld, Lara Croft's third adventure under the aegis of U.S. developer Crystal Dynamics. The issue features a world-exclusive including screenshots and an interview with Eric Lindstrom and can be purchased online and downloaded right now. According to PLAY, "Lara's adventure takes place after the events of Tomb Raider Legend. Her adventure will be a thrill ride for anyone new to the franchise. The emphasis is on bringing Lara's world to life, a lush, vast interactive world that reacts and remembers. It's pure woman versus wild." Commenting on one of Lara's locations, PLAY says, "In the level where Lara explores Southern Mexico, she leaves footprints in the mud, but it's raining so they wash away. The bodies she leaves behind in combat encounters will stay, however, as will the debris from any destruction she causes." On an immersive and epic environment and weather system, Eric Lindstrom says, "we developed a hybrid lighting model that combines dynamic lights with carefully created light maps to make our world look stunning in ways that none of the available methods could achieve alone." Crystal Dynamics have also given Lara full motion capture "to bring a more natural fluidity to her movements, with proper weight and secondary motion." Moreover, when Lara kneels on a muddy outcrop, only her knee will be covered in dirt and this will gradually dissipate as she continues on her journey. The game has been tentatively pencilled in for a 2008 release and is expected to court Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and Windows PC. Stay tuned for more info soon. SCREENSHOTS:

This certainly looks to be a very cool addition to the series. Now, if they would only make a movie with a better actress for the role of Lara, it might live up to this kind of stuff. I'm only picking at the movies as they were fun. I do wish they had chosen someone that looked more like the character. Thanks for sharing the news, Ken

The new outfit reminds me a lot of the first films outfit. I'm still trying to decide if I like it or not.....
As far as the movies go Angie made a good Lara. I thought she looked a lot like her. The problem wasn't her it was the plot and lackluster direction. I enjoyed TR2 more than I did the first movie which really isn't saying much.
I do agree that the movie series needs a reboot though......

I do agree that the movie series needs a reboot though...... Well, I thought she made an "okay" Lara, but definitely not a good one. She doesn't look enough like her and certainly isn't attactive enough IMO. I think the writing and production could have used alot of help as well, but both were passable enough on certain levels. But, I didn't mean for this thread to tke away from the new game by talking about the movies. Sorry for that part Corellia... Ken

no problem. I liked the movies and I thought Angie was okay. she's definitely not unattractive you have to admit that. I know a lot of people thought they should have used another actress though. I'm definitely going to cosplay that new outfit, but I'm waiting for better and more hi-res screens before I start on it. I also think for a "first look" that's pretty impressive.

No, I don't think she's unattractive, she just doesn't do anything for me at all or look as good as the game character does. Of course, one might say... but that character is fictional. Well, there are thousands of gals better suited for the role, that are indeed real! Anyway... yeah, I think the new game looks to be very well done and will benefit greatly from the lastest technology. If it does really wel (and it should), maybe they will entertain the idea of making another movie. Then the whole issue of whether or not to recast can be more relevant. I'm guessing that with Jolie's star power, it would simply be her choice. Ken

I really hope that new Indy game looks this good. Some of these jungle stages look really fantastic.
I HOPE LucasArts steps up the plate this time. I like Lara but Indy deserves good game for a change. Not something that's just passable.

I like Lara but Indy deserves good game for a change. Not something that's just passable. I agree, I enjoyed Emperor's Tomb to a degree, and there were some fun aspects to Infernal Machine, but I thought both games left a lot to be desired. I for one would love to see a game that involves all the best aspects of an Indy movie, especially a grand-scale vehicle chase, like the truck chase in Raiders, where you could take control of the vehichle and ram other vehicles off the road while fighting off badguys left and right...the "jeep trek" in Infernal Machine was a poor attempt at this, and it seems they didn't even try to develop a level like this for Emperor's tomb...instead we got a fun filled level with Indy swimming around, fighting a stupid Kracken... Oh, and while I'm at it, add me to the "Angelina Jolie isn't attractive" club. I've never found her remotely appealing. And that's not a knock on the Tomb Raider films, as I've never seen them, I just wanted to make sure Ken knows he's not alone...in the minority for sure, but not alone. ;D -GCR

@ GCR Ive met Angelina and i think you'd have a tough time telling her to her face, she wasn't attractive/appealing.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to look at her face for starters. And those stringy arms might make me too hungry for spaghetti to remember what I was going to say. Only playing, Ken

@ GCR Ive met Angelina and i think you'd have a tough time telling her to her face, she wasn't attractive/appealing. Well, yeah...because it's rude. I don't know too many people who approach strangers (especially celebrities) and tell them, to their face, that they think they're ugly. But that certainly doesn't change the fact that I DO think she's ugly. Chances are, if I met her in person, I'd probably tell her to get over herself and go eat a friggin' meal. ;D In all seriousness, though, she's simply not my type. I find her to be exceptionally malnourished and overly creepy. I personally prefer women with curves and shape and little to no creepiness. -GCR

oh... there goes the tomb raider GAME thread... It looks great altho I'll bet there using Direct X 10 to show it off, so if your not playing it on Vista w. a rly nice graphics card, its not going to look quite as nice. I'll still pick it up tho, the "dirty" feature is cool, they need to "borrow" that for the Indy Game.
